i kno what they look like, i have one.
mine jus doesnt have the stringy bit at the end of his fin. mine goes all the way up.
id get that 55 asap too cos there the fastest growing fish ive seen.

Looking back,i've had mine for a year and a half and since then he's grown from 1.5 inches to around 5 inches as he is now, so they really do grow fast! .

Im not allowed to get my new tank untill i switch to a bigger room-which will probably be after christmas, but he's not cramped at all and over that time i expect to get enough extra money(through christmas and birthday) to get that lovely 69 gallon i've been eyeing for a while now :D .

i think he means no more entries

ive had mine about 5 months and hes about 6" from about 1.5" when i got him so he must be a lil cramped.

 Not necessarily, you could just be feeding different foods, feeding more food, keep the tank at a different temperature, different place with less/more people passing by-lots of reasons. Remember people grow at different rates too, i have a friend who is slightly more than half the size of me, doesnt mean that he lives in a smaller house :/ . I guess its all down to genes, and while there may be less diversity in a species of fish than humans, doesnt mean that there is none at all.

Saying my fish is cramped because your one is growing faster is not really a good assumption :) .
He has plenty of space to do his thing :) .

that still points badly to you tho.

you obviously need to feed it more and a better diet then?

i dont think thats it anyway. its a known fact that big fish, giving space will grow faster and healthier. keeping them in small tanks stunts them.

Or maybe one of them or both, are hybrids, one was hybridized with something different, one was natural etc. Often happens now. Though diet, tank size, temperature etc. do play very importnant roles.

Hybrid synos. are common now, Czech Republic (and others) breeders using hormones etc.

Very good point, i think mine is definatly Synodontis eupterus though, comparing mine to pictures on the net and other i've seen. Although maybe he has some other type in him somewhere down the line, there is no way to tell.

I dont see how. I feed my fish plenty and give them variety. The temperature is most likely what is causing the difference in sizes, my tank is always around 24 degrees celcius. Whats yours at? -_- I always thought the higher the temperature usually the higher the metabolism. A slower metabolism usually means a slower growing and longer living fish.

There is no problem with him being in the tank he is in at the moment, although i would prefer a bigger tank, it just not possible right now.

Him growing slower doesnt mean his quality of life if any worse -_- .
