So, despite having an open topped tank and the food being on a shelf above the tank, today I've come down to a pack of brine shrimp in a puddle on the floor and the brand new jar of prima floating in the tank. :shout:

Luckily only half the jar was water damaged and I've saved the other half, but even so... the cat has still attempted to get the food down from very difficult circumstances.... what on earth do they put in fish food to make pets go mental over it like that?!

The really stupid thing is that the fish food for the other tank in my bedroom is just sat on top of my chest of drawers, and he never tries to get that down... :dunno:

I feel your pain. Our cat is an 18lb monster and the thought of him jumping on top of my set up terrifies me. We quite regularly find him walking round the house with a packet of algae wafers in his mouth.

I put all my fish food in little baby food or mustard jars so that he can't eat them. I got sick of buying him expensive snacks. He even used to climb round the back of the tank and in the back of the locked cupboard to get the tubs out. He can't chew the glass jars open though... apparently though, he can drop them in the tank... I'll have to take more care to screw the lids on carefully.

On a (hopefully) unrelated note, he has a poorly foot this morning and won't walk on it... I kinda feel like karma got him!

I woudn't even consider an open top as we've got 3 cats and they tend to jump on the lid. Yesterday I just had the balast unit on while I was outside scrubbing my flaps.
Ahem. Anyway, if any of them did decide to jump up, I would find it hard not to laugh cos there's nothing worse than a wet SORRY IM GOING TO BED

 I'm at work and bursting into laughter at my desk draws suspicion so behave yourself!

I can confirm that my dog will eat any fishfood that hits the floor. The cat is currently climbing into the stand through the back and dragging things out but soon she'll be too big to fit and I am eagerly awaiting the day she gets herself stuck! More karma!

When I had no lid on my fish tank and a cat, the cat used to play in the water. Not trying to catch the fish, as he could have easily caught a hoplo if he wanted to. He was just playing with the water and splashing it all over the place. I once found him in my bath tub, which was full of hot water. Crazy kitty was soaked and looking at me with his big green eyes... I miss the little guy so much, but FIV is one cruel virus and it got him a bad pneumonia and he died. :(

Mitzury used to love water so much, everywhere there was water, he would roll in it.

My old cat (now sadly passed away) adored flake fish food. Every feeding time she would park herself at the tank and meow until she got her pinch! :good:

Talking of dogs that eat anything our old dalmation was such a dustbin she would eat anything and really should have been called hoover. Her favourite was the little paper cups that you made fairy cakes in!! Once we took her to the park and about half a mile away was a family with small kids having a picnic. She ran full pelt as soon as we let her off the lead and parked herself slap bang in the middle of the blanket waiting for her share!. It took me 5 minutes to get over there to get her on the lead! Luckily they saw the funny side of it and she had enough manners to sit and wait patiently! :D

On a more embarrassing note my sisters dalmation was worse! She took him to the park where over the other side of it was an elderly lady in a track suit doing yoga. He legged it over jumped on her back and started humping her. She was screaming pinned to the floor and my poor red faced sister had to run like mad to the other side of the park!. Needless to say soon after he was castrated!

The fish flake smell so yummy, I'd eat it myself. o_O Though too scared to try them LOL!!!
If I still had my last cat, those would not be ok anywhere, he could open drawers and cupboards easily and reach any tall furniture in the house.

Lol humping dalmatian. Our neighbor has two little dogs and a big one, and the little ones try to hump anyone's leg. The postman was like: O_O when he saw that two dogs were humping him same time. But his expression when he saw the big dog, who is one loudmouth dog, was like

Very unusual for cats to like water.
Sorry to hear about your cat, we've had two that suffered the same fate unfortunately.

Fantastic photo btw.

I've noticed that the cow-patterned cats love water, for whatever reason. There is an old woman where I go at my grandma's, she also has a cat that looks like mine and it loves to sit in random containers that its owner leaves outside with water.
I've had two orange tabbies before and they both HATED water. One even went so far as to hide under my bed when he saw the shower running.

I've heard that FIV has some vaccine available (though not for all strains). Unfortunately, Romania isn't the place to seek that vaccine since they say here that if a cat has FIV, they're as good as dead while in the US they say that there still is a chance for them to recover or at least live a normal life. My cat stopped living a normal life in 2010 the moment his digestive problems started to show more often. He had them as a kitten, but not as bad. Then he caught a cold that didn't stop even with the antibiotics the vet prescribed. -.- Oddly, he died suddenly, as that day he just ate his last meal and was going to drink some water. Then I heard a noise and found him collapsed in the bathroom. He woke up and walked all the way to the kitchen, but as if he was blind, and then crashed there. -.- I stood next to him till he died. It all happened so fast and quite unexpected, as he seemed to be ok...

If I leave the fish food out on the sides my cats will jump up and knock it off then wait for one of the dogs to chew it open then they all have a feast. All my tanks have lids and the cats love curling up on top of them they like the heat from the lights. My retriever likes to snap at the fish if she sees them at the front of the tank and my little dog ( a mutt ) stole a fish out of the bucket when I was changing the gravel to sand, don't know how but the fish survived. It seems to be a never ending battle in our house....

sorry for your loss :( we get quite a few FIV cats in and we rehome them as house cats, its actually not as bad a illness as you think once you know how to adapt and they live very long normal lives, unless your refering to FIP, now thats a cruel virus

What's really annoying is that my hands still smell of prima.... despite washing them several times! :shout:
