Herbal ich cure, kordon or other is useless. Go to walmart and get quick cure. Just remember because you have tetras, 1 drop for each 2 gallons of water. Be sure to remove your carbon from the filter, and dose daily for 5-7 days.

I bought numerous bottles of Kordon when my 125 gallon had Ich, it claims for Ich it could take up to 5 weeks of daily treatments to remove it. Almost everyone single one of my then 80 or so fish had ich, and I didnt have a single death, and the Ich was gone in a week max. I stand by it and when the store had a sale at the end of the year, I picked up more bottles just incase

GRRRR its spreading fast..... carbon is out 81 degrees, this is going in garbage can tomorrow. I need this gone the faster the better, Thanks RW
BTW will my UV filter have any negative effects on my treatment?

Well what do the instructions say? Turning UV off and removing <7 day old carbon pads is normally standard practise while medicating, most meds instruct such things on teh bottle/packaging.

Ich meds are only able to kill the free swimmiig stage of the parasite, not the ones on the fish and not the stage when they fall off the fish to produce many new free swimmers while on the tank floor.

what are the active ingredients?
I'm not 100% sure, the bottle just says 5% active ingredients ( multiple natural herbals containing Natphoquinone ), 95% inert ingredients. As mentioned above Ich meds wont kill anything thats already on your fish, you need to wait for them to fall off and go into your substrate and begin to breed, its when the new parasites start swimming around the meds kill them. The bottles I have are 473ml, 5ml treats 10 gallons ( 20 gallons in the case of loaches or scaleless ) and the ich in my 125 was taken care of by the end of the first bottle. Looking at their website all they mention is this
SPECIFICATIONS
Kordon Ich-Attack contains 5% active ingredients consisting of five natural organic herbals, based on their containing patented naphthoquinones. Totally free of chemicals (such as formalin and malachite) and all heavy metals, including zinc and copper. Does not affect pH of the water, or its oxygen content. Compatible with all Kordon water conditioners (NovAquas, Amquels, Fish Protector, PolyAqua, EZ4U tablets, Betta Tabs, Goldfish Tabs, VitaTrace, PhosRid)

Hello. day 3 of treatment
I have read over and over the exact life stages of the ich protozoa

1, the white spot stage where they are feeding and growing on my fish and you see the white spots... no way to kill these." trophonts"

2,Once mature the the still protected trophont drops off and sticks to anything in the tank, gravel, plants, etc. any innate object, this is the encapsulated stage when they divide into 1000s of "tomites".

3, once fully mature the divided "tomites" bust out of it cyst, now called theronts they quickly grow cilia and swim until they find a new host, This is the opening to KILL them, the only time you can.

I notice today that more fish have the tiny whitespots. Now if they where there already or not its hard to say. 99% of my fish seem very healthy, but one cherry Barb who was doing the hide in the corner routine.

This is the stuff I have

http://www.petco.com...rden-Ponds.aspx

it only comes in a bottle no box or instruction sheet.
the website says
"This herbal ich treatment treats ich, velvet (gold dust disease), saprolegniasis, trichodiniasis. Can be used continuously for up to 10 days safely! Shake well. To treat "ich" disease (ichthyophthiriasis) of freshwater fishes and "marine ich" disease (cryptocaryonasis) of marine fishes, add 1 teaspoonful full (~5 mL) of Herbal Ich Treatment to 10 gallons of aquarium water. For best results: (1) always treat in a separate quarantine/treatment tank, (2) remove activated carbon from filters (but do not stop filtration!), (3) make at least a 1/3 water change before each addition of Herbal Ich Treatment (use Petco Water Conditioner & Ammonia Remover to condition new water), and (4) repeat treatments at least every 24 hours, but no more often than every 8 hours, depending upon the course of the disease (5) after treatment, complete your normal water change and aquarium maintenance to help eliminate any residual organic solids. Can be used continuously for up to 10 days safely. Do not overdose, fatalities may result.
Caution: Do not use Herbal Ich Treatment with any other medications. Do not use with sulfinate-, or sulfoxylate-basedf water conditioners. Herbal Ich Treatment may be harmful to some invertebrates (e.g. filter feeders); use caution and observe very carefully when treating aquariums with invertebrates. Immediate 50%, or larger, water changes should be performed if stress is observed among treated animals. Ingredients:

A proprietary blend of natural herbs in an aqueous solution.

No mention of ingredients which I find troubling. and NO mention of UV filter.

I was told on several websites that this is the same stuff Kordon just packaged for PETCO. don't know for a fact.

I just was trying to find out if anyone had ever used the PETCO crud with any success?

My water
NO3 40
NO2 1
PH 7.0
KH 180
GH 60

40% water change
temp 85.8 turned up to try and hurry the cycle, fish seem ok right now...

The White spots are very small almost too small to see, but they are there. The ones you see on the loach in the picture only show up in the picture, not with naked eyes.

I used to use a stuff call ICK-OUT but cant find it...I will look at walmart and anywhere else I can find today that's open. there is a place close by but very pricey but at this point worth it if I can get something that will work

Anyway, Thanks again
Ralph

You will see some fish gain more spots even as your treat the tank, but it'll go away. Are you sure your Nitrite is sitting at 1ppm? It should be 0 or a light blue colour if your using the API testing kit its still just as poisonous as ammonia and could lead to more stress and more ich outbreaks

Definitely more spots today
My water
NO3 40
NO2 >1 but its got color
PH 7.5
KH 180
GH 90

this is after a 35% water change

pond care 5-1 test strips
86 Degrees

installed under gravel filtration

all fish seem to be doing will although I did lose a cherry barb which I thick was a netting injury? I hope one Eye was swollen

zero carbon in tank while treating

I tested the ammonia with a kit I have had for years..... at least 5 and said ammonia was 1
this again after the water change
I DONT TRUST THESE TEST METHODS Will get the API kit as soon as I can

I posted a response to your thread in the emergencies section - I didn't twig there that you were using test strips - these are notoriously inaccurate, so some of the things I say on my other post may not apply - depending on the results of the API tests when you get them. I recommend you get them as soon as you can. If not, quicker.

API master test kit

ammonia--NH3/NH4+ .25ppm

Nitrite--NO2- 3.0-4.0 ppm

Nitrate--NO3- 20ppm

Looks like the med, maybe killing off your bio filter. I assume that's the reason for all the water changes during treatment. Anyway, 80-90% water changes for the next several days will be needed to bring those numbers to zero.

API master test kit 70% change

ammonia--NH3/NH4+ .25ppm ammonia--NH3/NH4+ about .07

Nitrite--NO2- 3.0-4.0 ppm Nitrite--NO2- 1.0 ppm

Nitrate--NO3- 20ppm Nitrate--NO3- 15ppm

so the change did help some...will do it again tomorrow.. retreated with the ICH cure and temp at mid 86 degrees

the original fish where I first noticed the ich (clown Loach) looks to be completely clear now,,BUT the others are getting it pretty good now...the tigers and cherry barbs seem the worst, then the Buenos Aires Tetras, My Red Tailed Shark never was affected at all....yet. lots of air.18 inch air stone. plus the bubbles from the UG filter and the power filter..so lots of oxygen in the water.

Money being tight as it is, as I was hurt at work and I decided to take up this hobby again to try and get my mind off things from time to time and maybe help with the depression and anxiety, I had big tanks from the time I was 18 till I was 40 or so... took a break when I moved to Long Island, I don't remember ever going through this before,,,all was fine till I put that Loach in there :(

some of the fish are a little listless I'm hoping its from the warmer water
