I have 2 goldfish and 10 tetras and one sucker fish. I was told by the petshop guys that they will not chase or fight eachother. I have found that the goldfish chase the tetras. The tetras were introduced to the goldfish after 5 days.

My question is can they live peaceful together or should I not be mixing these two species?

Also, I really like dwarf kissing guaramis and I would like to know if I can add them to this community. If not what type of fish can I add to my current tank for a peaceful lively community?

Thank you all very much!

10.5 gallons and there is a filter pump and separate pump for oxygen bubbles. Not sure if this is cycling.

Sadly your tank is already overstocked as Goldfish need ten gallons each and do better in Cold water tanks not tropical. I would return the Goldfish soon as they are large waste producers and if the tank is not cycled then they will create large ammonia in the tank

They are very small goldfish. I see goldfish kept in a bowl and our tank is much much bigger than that. And the petstore guys were adamant everything would be okay. I am a little confused.

I am not really the one to answer this thread because it takes alot of explaining and I'll allow a more experienced member to answer it sorry Lol

yeah I completly agree either the gold fish or the tetera's 10 gallon is a little to small, its a bad investment the fish will be fine but your so limited as to what you can do with it its just not worth it. If I were you I would get rid of the gold fish and replace it with a nice betta, after the running period is done of course, gold fish don't get that big in a 10 gallon because they die before reaching there full size so i think its crule to keep them in anything less than a 30-40 gallon, but since you are keeping them in a 10 you might as well have more than one... just take them back to the pet store thats what i honestly think get w8 till your tank is cycled and then get a school of neons or a betta, or 5 neons and a betta and get rid of your tetteras what ever kind they are.

either way gold fish are cold water fish and tetra's/betta are tropical fish, either one will tolerate warm/cold, since there both very hardy but they won't be happy.

remember to buy a heater if you go tropical.

A Betta will more than likely get nipped by the neons and is best kept on its own.
Harlequins or Minnows are a nice peaceful fish and would get on finw with your neons.

Gold fish are cold water fish and need a lot of space,You should be looking to make your fish comfy , not crowding as many in as possible.
Defiantly over stocked, and if some aren't removed you will start losing them.
The Lfs are only there to make a sale, as you have found.

niped by the neons? no way there not finnipers he can boss them around they would be in more danger, i would understand tiger barbs... but neons common now, take my word for it neons would be fine, there no more agresive than rasboras not at all, like all tetera's in my experience as long as you keep them well feed they are fine, also aviod realy fast moveing fish the betta wont apreciate the trafic, neons can also be kepted with this next fish here.

heres another interesting fish that is agresive and can be kept in a small tank, dont keep this one with a betta!

people say there not agresive but they can be to there own kind or any other fish that is in there family including bettas yes there realated.

Fair enough, but where any advice stems from here on the forum is the fact that 'small goldfish' become large goldfish. When considering stocking levels we always take into account the size of a tank and match that to the maximum average size of a fish that it will grow to. You've got to think of the future and is a common mistake not taking this into account when first getting into fishkeeping.

To this end I will also say: get rid of the Goldfish! True, they need a lot of room, are cold water and are the dirtiest of fish!

With those gone, I'd say that for your 10G tank that the remaining stock you will be left with is all you'd want to put in it & no more.

12 neons would look great! BTW, neons are fine with a Betta....

Oxygen bubbles are there purely for decorative purposes. Consider this as another thing your friendly LFS has sold you that you do not need. But they do look nice so whatever.

& NO, this is NOT cycling (I can see how you think this though)! OK, where to start..... in a nutshell then:
Fish pee. They pee Ammonia. This is poisonus to fish and needs to be removed from the water using a filter.
OK so far...
The (blue) filters hold bacteria that chew up the ammonia and convert it to a less poisonus chemical (Nitrate). The green filter then converts Nitrate to the even less poisonous chemical Nitrite.
(Nitrite levels & indeed all chemical levels are then further reduced via weekly water changes)
Good o!
BUT - your blue filter does NOT come with any bacteria in it. You have to cultivate a level of bacteria BEFORE adding any fish. This is called cycling and is done by adding small amounts of pure ammonia to a tank without any fishin it. This process usually takes about 6 weeks.
IF you have a good LFS you can 'seed' your filters to speed up the process in which case cycling can take only 2 weeks.
There are pinned topics on this very important subject....

PS
I'd start looking for a better LFS whose staff are better educated (or least not simply trying to flog you unsuitable fish!)

Thank you for your comments.

I will try to take the goldfish back.

Bettas are the same as Siamese fighting fish, right? Arn't they solitary fish? And is there a difference between tetras and neons?

Betta is just another name for a Siamese fighting fish. And a neon is one species of tetra that you can buy.

Neons are a tetra and Bettas are siamese fighting fish but far easier to type Betta...And it is advised Bettas be kept by themselves

Beat me to it Stang :p
