Parrot Cichlid

I wouldn't mix Angels with Parrots!

Would you mix a Angel with a undersized Red Devil/Midas Cichlid?

Would you mix a Angel with anything from the Vieja complex? even if it was stunted and under 8" ?

The deformed mouth may stop them from biting chunks out of your fish but it wont stop them from harassing the hell out of them.

Mine are fine, they even sleep in the same spot together.
I guess it depends on the parrot, they all seem to have different personalities. My last male was a brute and just bullied all my fish, no matter what they were....

Could I have a female betta sorority with my parrot?

The Tiger barbs and RTBS is a good idea tho.

Is your heart really set on a Blood parrot Hybrid? there are other fish that have similar shape..nicer colours...much more peaceful and do not support the Hybrid trade/ animal cruelty and get to the same size...such as Severums.

Yea I kind of am set on the parrot...I am being given a juvenile one and am trying to plan the tank around him....
I will look into Severums if this doesn't work out...are they more peaceful?

As for diet, because they cannot close their mouths, do not feed them flakes. They do best on solid food, such as frozen or pelet. Tetra prima granuals are perfect.
Why would anybody want to keep a genetic freak of a fish that can't even close it's mouth?

If its already been created by no fault of my own...why not give an already living creature a home in a tank where he will be cared for?

^ That is a good attitude

I would never recomend buying one, but if you have to..give it the best life possible..can't argue with that at all.

not buying the ones already in existence is probably the best approach. that way no one will get the impression that people actually want them.

demand creating supply

Sadly the popularity on these mutants in Asia is gigantic...so the problem will never go away...but hey if they can keep them away from these shores I'll be happy.

I'm a big fan of parrots and actually find hybrids facinating. I have 2 regular bloods, a king kong, 2 baby fowerhorn parrots and 2 of the offspring of my king kong and red head cichlid. Like any cichlid they can be aggressive and predatory. Mine are more aggressive towards me than tankmates though there have been specific cichlids they just dont get on with. My big king kong female lives with fish she could easily kill and some she could swallow whole but shes never shown any interest in smaller fish. Generally fish that they can fit in their mouths wil become lunch and similar shaped and sized cichlid may be seen as a threat. My bloods and 2 KK x Syns just now live with large clown loaches, hoplo cats, leopard climbing perch, a palmas bichir and a rainbow snakehead(which im rehomeing). The KK, baby FHBP a KK x Syn live with a small red severum, 4 small sajica, hoplo cats, a HRP/Convict mix, some congo tetras and a smallish deformed JD. Over the years (my big BP is almost 10) I have kept them with various other fish with no real problems. Tiger barbs and talking cats will be fine. I'm not sure what you commonly get as a tiger pl*co but if you mean a king tiger then thats probably not a good idea as the fancy kinds can be hard to feed at the best of times but with greedy parrots(or any large greedy cichlid) you may find they hide away and eventually starve.

Btw your best discussing them in the hybrid forum where you will get more info and less hate :good:

thanks :) I def will from now on!
