Panting fish

OK. First off, we have already determined that you like fish,..alot of fish! :D

Way overstocked

You can pump all the air you want into an aquarium, and what it will mostly do is help precipitate the CO2 out of the water. It doesn't really "add" O2 like most think.

Adjusting your livestock levels would be the best long term solution.

Your filter must be quite adequate though to not have an ammonia problem with that many fish.

I've never had an ammonia or nitrite problem, but used to experience a rapid build up of nitrate before I started to use green-X in my external filter.

I guess having 4-5 cms of gravel helps beneficial bacterial and I draw water through it with a powerhead...

My 02 levels have gone from 2mg/l to 5mg/l with the addition of a long air stone, and as soon as the algea problem has subsided (going as we speak...) I'm sure I can get up to 8mg/l, which at 25C appears to be at or near saturation point.

Several people have told me I'm overstocked - how many of my fish to I need to find new homes for?

My network catfish is growing at a healthy rate so he may be first to go, problems is I love catfish!!
