Ozzies Little Reef

Aye, Ben

ref the wrasse I havent had any issues with him over the year I had him, saying that he is still a juvenile. He did like to throw frags around and pick up the odd crab and drop them though :/

I did buy him from an LFS where I spent over £500 on corals so I was disappointed that they knew me and the stock I had and still sold him to me. Anyway I dont bother with that particular place anymore as it made me feel like everytime I went there it was payday for them.

Now I just do more research before I buy anything. :good:

Just watched yer vid bud. That tank of yours is awesome. I like it even more now. What a great selection and variety of corals it looks natural yet stunning! Nice one mate!

Thanks guys :)
Well I got paint today and have had a productive evening :)

Not the ideal way to do it but I dont have a lot of choice and to be honest cant wait until I get a new setup with the back as it is.

Im going to have to move the refugium, alk, nitrate and phos reactor as well as the skimmer from the back of the tank to the front :banghead:

The plan is to do it this evening and that way it will be dry for tomorrow, hopefully one good coat will suffice we will see ;)

The other problem is I am 6'3 and 16 stone and only have about 10" of space at the back of the tank to paint, might get tight

So Ive started to move the stuff from the back to the front, also managed to move the tank a tad to give a bit more room :)

After tea, paint :)

Well got all the gunk of the glass and cleaned around the plastic. Put one coat one and Im a lot happier with it so far. Going to leave a couple of hours and bang another coat on which will do I think. Very happy with the coverage, would have liked the colour to be a tad darker but this is working nicely. Really does bring out the coloirs in everything as well as making the whole tank look a lot brighter. :)

Looking great! I love the foxface! I hope to have one soon!

Ps I have updated my journal if you fancy a look!

Well ended up adding another coat last night. It has darkened of and Im happy with the final outcome and colour.

The reflection of the ripple from the surface is really good now ;)

Moved everything back to the rear of the tank and this is how it looks :)

Super tank!!! Can you tell us a bit more about the hang on refugium??

Thank you both :)

Sure, its an acrylic 500mm x 200mm x 50mm refugium (5 liters) retails at £100

Holds miracle mud caulerpa and chaeto. Full of copepods too. A 800lph pump feed the fuge that goes into the inlet chamber where it overflows into the main chamber and then simply flows back into the display through a pipe.

Hey all, well its time for an update I guess. Shortly after making the last post I was forced to sell up to buy a better car in order to travel to a job I applied for. Anyway after 2 months of waiting I found out I had got the job :) Its took a while to get back on our feet but finally we have managed to get to a point where we can start a new tank. We wont be able to buy all new but just getting back into the hobby is more than I could of asked for in 6 months of going without.

Anyway, as I mentioned before I wanted to upgrade and get a sumped system. I scoured the net and although there are a lot out there, there seemed to be something missing from everything. Buying new was out the question, I like the godiva ranges but when starting from scratch and having to plan on buying everything the cost was too high. To top that off we had decided that we would like a cube, and when I measured the gap we only had 42.5" to work with.

So after more searching I found a custom made Godiva cube, sump and cabinet. The tank measured 28x24x24 so is a slight offsquare  the sump 30x15x15 The guy had originally wanted a bigger sump to hold the equipment which I thought was a bit odd as the cabinet is wider than the tank  I checked with the dimensions, the cabinet was 42" he said. Worth a look i felt. Anyway went out to view and actually liked it :) even measured the cabinet myself 42", just in case the guy got it wrong and i only had 1/2" to work with :p After a bit of bartering I closed the deal :) wooohooo only it wouldnt all fit in my lwb frontera :hehe: kindly the guy offered to follow me and put the tank in his car. only a few miles but what a star!

He even helped me in with it :) and get it in place, the only problem it didnt fit  i checked the size again and it was 42" unfortunately stupid here had measured the gap of the alcove from wall to wall and forgot above the skirting :hehe:

After a bit of diy this was the result

So up to now I have the tank, sump pipework and cabinet oh and a rather snazzy eheim return pump :good:

Let me know what you guys think so far ;)

New halided and a v2 1200 skimmer being picked up Wednesday, which is 2 things to be ticked of the shopping list

That's a nice tank! Look forward to more updates. :good:

Hey all

bit of an update :)

Been a few days since the Aragonite live and live rock was put in. params today, Nitrate 0, Nitrate <5, Ammonia 0 and Ph 8.2 Temp 25

Since placing the rock in we have discovered a colony of really nice Gsp, some zoas and pulsing xenia oh and a few purple mushies. Bonus of getting the rock from a 10 foot close down :)

Had a quick go this afternoon at scaping, not really happy with the outcome lol but its a start. Most likely will try again later, I know what I want, sort off :p just got to put it into action ;)

Anyway, the camera has gone a bit psycho but heres a pic for now. Not sure about the Tonga, that might be going in the classifieds

let me know what you think

Hmmmm, I'm not sure about the Tonga placement either. You got some nice stuff in your rock, though. I didn't get anything that cool, but I can get frags for $6 so I'm not complaining. :)
