Oscars ------is A 40 Gallon Uk ----ok For 1 To Go In

how about
1 common pleaco
1 parrot fish
2 angels
2 clowns
well that what i would like but its over stocked than

you could only have the angels and even then they like a taller tank rather than longer.

the pleco grows to around 12" so is way too big
the parrot grows to 8" so is too big
the clowns grow to about 8" aswell so there too big too.

if i was you id get a nice community going with some gourami, plattys, tetras and guppys etc.

have either the gourami or some bolivian rams in as the centre piece.

i have guppies ect in my other tank but as mum let me get a 4 ft tank i would like something a bit different how about 1 parrot fish

for starters, your tank is about 46 gallons..... jus so ya kno!

u could get the one parrot but it doesnt leave you with much choice after that.

have you looked into african cichlids?

you could have around 15 in that tank and theyre totally different to normal community fish.

ive jus started a tank with them myself.

:hyper: wow thanks

i just googled african cichlids they look really cool i will do some more research thanks

your tank is bigger that that. 48" x 19" x 20" right? thats just over 75gallons of Air. if you keep it bare bottom or a very thin layer of substrate you could have a oscar. you could get a pair of jack dempsey, a green terror, or a armored birchir of something or something like a black ghost knife?

I'd say you have heard too many different gallons. I recommend you take a tape measure to your tank and post the exact demensions and not just 'about 4 foot long' (length, width & hight). Either in inches/feet or meters/cm ... when we know exact measurements we should be able to give you a definate answer to what the volume of your tank is.

As for cichlids, they do tend to be lovely fish. There are however many many different cichilds, and many that are completely different in feeding/behaviour as well. It's best to check your lfs first to see exactly which cichlids they keep, and then research them. Also, be aware that most lfs don't have theirs named properly but will simply call it a 'mix'. Pictures might be helpful for identification =)

--Edit--
Your tank is more likely to be around 40G than 75G. No clue where that person got the 75G from.

i will just go & see

high - 1 ft & 7cm
long - nearly 4 ft
& the other one - 1 ft & 8 cm

So it's a 48"x14.5"x15" which makes it a 45 gallon by my count !

An Oscar fully grown would definatly be out of the question why not try a pair of severums there average size is 8" in the home aquarium they are very peacefull Cichlids also. Is it just Cichlids your after keeping or is it anything in general ?

If it's just cichlids your after here's a few i think you'd be Ok:

Blue acara's size 6" south american
Geophagus size 6" south american
Jewel cichlids size 6" african ( liberia )
Convict cichlids 6" central american
Firemouth cichlids 6" central american

you could keep 4 of these fish in your tank comfortably.

Or maybe a Flower Horn Cihlid it's a hybird so it dosen't have a native counrty they are cross bred between Severum, Feastea, Red Devil Midas. but if you chose to keep this fish WARNING you could only keep the one fish as they are extreamly agressive and they grow to an average size of about 12". Actually come to think of it i proberbly wouldn't put one in your tank as its not too wide.

yep. a pair of flyer cichlids will look nice in that tank. i paid £40 for my pair and theyv given birth. if you anywhere near me you can have 1 or 2 for free(if you can come and get them)... anyone else want some? still pretty small now so, couple of weeks? very nice fish...

im in south wales...i cant seem to add pics to this topic, but if you go onto "members aquariums and fish pics" then go onto photo request and then onto page 7. youl see my tank. the male flyer in the fish in the middle and is fully grown at seven inches. the fish in that photo is out of its breeding colours. the fish is especially buitiful inside its breeding period... let me know what you think...
dany. (this isnt the fish being given away. its the fry being given...)
