Orange Stripe Eggs.....

just checked on the fry and found 1 that had gone very pale and had died.... but the rest seem fine and the 2 in the parents tank are fine too.

Hi mattlee :)

It's too bad that your fry died but it's best to be prepared to lose a few. Some seem to be less strong than others. As long as you keep the water and the substrate clean, you will surely do well with the rest of them.

That's good news about your finding one at the lfs too. :D

Aw well done and best of luck really hope they all survive, they sound like they are doing great!
cheers, do you have yours yet? i went to lfs today and in their display tank spotted a gold stripe that was on its own and really big so i asked if i could have it and they said yes but not until they perform a water change as the tank is huge.... so picking it up next weekend, they had forgot it was even in there....!

Hello! Nope not yet, but should be arriving this week (very excited), that is brilliant news on the one left over at the store (reallly jealous), best of luck with the fry and hope you dont lose anymore, cant wait to see more piccies!

here is a pic of the juvi gold stripe with its parents....

Thanks matt :)

Its surprising how attached we get too week old fry.

Good luck with yours too :good:

i have transfered the fry to their own tank today bought from wilkinsons for £5.50 as shown by a previous message on here. a 25W heater, a thin layer of sand, and a sponge filter i have had running in my main tank for about 5 weeks. hopefully they will like it in there with all that room to swim/wriggle about in....

all fry are still ok and doing fine :good: loving their new tank that must be like a small ocean to them  i had a really good luck last night in the parents tank for the 2 fry but couldnt see them... ill have another look tonight

cheers :good: how are yours getting on? what age do you think the cory i found in the filter is by the picture....? any ideas?

Going by its size and comparing it to mine i reckon its 6/7 weeks old.maybe older :good:

Unfortunately the batch of 22 i had i dwindling down to 5 now  i reckon its the after effect of that nitrite spike i had.
The newest 10 that hatched yesterday and the one i found in the tank all seem fine *cross fingers* early days.

I had a problem with nitrite before with my first lot when i first was using first bites,i dunno if its anything to do with the firstbites??,
Has i originally reared them on liquidfry and baby brineshrimp, and the spike started after i started using firstbites.
I change the water and clean the bottom etc twice a day,but still getting a spike of 0.25,which for tiny fry doesn't seem possible.

I might change to babybrine shrimp for a few days to see what happens.

What are you feeding your fry on?
Thanks for asking :)

Hi, i am currently feeding mine on firstbites too with a small amount of freeze dried brine shrimp. i have some brine shrimp eggs but they seem like hard work so ive ordered a microworm set up. the reason i say hard work is because they take up to 2 days to hatch and need an airpump to suspend them in the water constantly, then as you have to add salt they need filtering out of the hatching water and washing in tank water to remove any traces of salt as corys hate this, then feed! seems like alot of work to me so ive opted for the easy option with a constant supply of microworms when they arrive :good:
do you have a filter running in your fry tank? i have a small sponge filter that has been in my main tank for about 5 or 6 weeks so should be mature enough for fry, hopefully.... they are in an 11 litre plastic tank with thin layer of sand, heater and filter and i am doing 3 litre water changes once a day and twice a day at weekends (as i am at work for 5.30 am in the week) :( i have only found 1 dead but this was before transfering them to the plastic tank so so far pretty good for a first timer i think....!
they seem to grow really fast the first week but have slowed down this second week. they are 2 weeks old on sunday

Hi matt

Yes i have a filter,it has mature media in it,well after another 0.25 nitrite this morning,i removed the fry, clean the tank throughly and put all fry incl the new ones back in,i haven't fed any firstbites, just a little liquidfry for the newbies and defrosted baby bs in tank water, checked water earlier nitrite 0 ?
My tank also has a little sand, heater, filter and airstone.

I reckon i had beginners luck with my first lot

Fab yours are doing well :good:
