You can get just one angelfish, they don't need a school. I have 2 dwarf gouramis and they don't tear up my 55 gallon tank. They just kind of "hang out". I'm planning on getting ONE angelfish, but it will be the last fish I add, as I don't want it thinking it's boss and eating something smaller for lunch. Good luck.
