Went on a hunt for black sand today.. my heart's set on it for the main tank, but unfortunately think I'm left with Roman Gravel.

Anyway! Went to Dobbies in Stirling, had a mooch about the fish and spotted some GORGEOUS female bettas. I've never seen an orange betta in person, and that was the first colour I saw. Then the other, a bright yellow. They're pretty long finned, so I think it might be worth keeping an eye on them - but both look very girly to me. My tank for them isn't *quite* ready, so they've been put in the big tank in the living room for a few days. I couldn't resist, I had to buy them.

The next part of the story, the guy that was dealing with us turns around and says "We had a male in with them for a few days, and think most of them are pregnant so you should have babies from them soon!"

 W.T.F

I did reply and say they couldn't actually be pregnant and explain, but he was too occupied "studying their pregnancy". LOL.

Here they are! Sorry for the blurry pics, new camera and just getting used to it.

 Absolute belter!! Love it.

Regarding the black sand, I got some from Pets at Home if thats any help. It was made by the same guys as Roman Gravel, in fact the bag was identical, but they do sand too. Worth a look!

Cheers :good:

BTT

both those bettas though very pretty look like young males to me.

Hey Cara, they look gorgeous, really pretty, especially the yellow one.

With regards to black sand, I couldn't get it anywhere and phoned around half of the Fish Shops in Scotland and eventually lucked out with East Lothian Aquatics. It was quite expensive but well worth it.

Thanks everyone :)

BTT - Had a look in P@H in Falkirk, couldn't see anything but gravel. Which one was it you got it?

Lisa - There's another yellow one still there. Bit nipped however, and there's a purple marble who would have been stunning, but not a lot of fins left at all. I REALLY want to go over to ELA, need to see when to go.

Straiton, Edinburgh.

Maybe best to phone them before making a trip through as its quite a way.

:good:

Cara ELA is still in its infancy but it does have some excelellnt fish and other bits

I would suggest phoning before making the trek down as lot of empty tanks last week so i was a bit disapointed in what was there was some of what was there was stunning! with regard some Betta's and other fish

they Def know there stuff as I was down last week and had a wander around and a quick chat to one of the guys.

Will do John, would be a great disappointment to go all the way over and have empty tanks LOL.
This black sand is hard to get a hold of, thought it would be easy! Just cos I'm impatient and want it now, rather than buying online. Plus, I like to see what I'm buying first hand

Newfishy - Yeah, said that in my post, I'll be keeping an eye on them but for the moment, they're girls. I've had experience with females turning out to be males, can usually tell in the usual PK female tanks but these ones I'm not sure about at all.

ELA is good, was looking pretty cluttered last time I was in, think they're trying to sort out all the different types of tanks they're selling, good shop though. If you're down that way, then it's worth going down to OutsideIn Aquatics in Haddington as well, they've got some cracking tanks and fish there.
