Once Upon A Time At The Riverbank

looks amazing, wish i could have a tank that barely resembles it!

can we have an up to-date shot?

how does the superglue affect trimming the plants? Are they easy to remove from the wood to do so?

Not sure I understand you here. You don't need to remove plants from wood to trim them ;) They attach to the wood and then you leave them there. trim them in situ just as you would any other plant.

Thanks for the compliment. Will take a piccie when the water clears. Been treating the water with PimaFake and Melafake because of the Corys and the water is a little murky at the mo. Stopped dosing today and did a water change. After Friday's water change should be clear enough for piccies.

After a month or more of struggling with my Corys illnesses I can finally show some pictures of clear water again :)

The Corys have had a couple of weeks of a Formaldehyde mix and followed by a week of PimaFake and Melafake and after 2 x 50% water changes today I deiced to take pictures while the water was clear :)

Here are the Rasboras during the water change:

The growth of the actual tank has been unaffected and is coming on strong. Much more vibrant than the earlier days which I wasnt keen on:

Here are a couple of shots with the lights as they would be between 11pm and 11-30pm with just the last 2 series on (14.7W / <0.5WPG)

I really like this tank and I like the direction you are taking. The substrates particularly catches my attention because it looks so natural. Because I mixed two grains of sand with laterite, mine is also doing this and I like the effect quite a bit.

I also think that the fish choice is great. I've kept espei and I am very fond of them.

The plants also look good, but to me, this setup is more of a complete look rather than just a planted tank. I think people often forget about the fish in their quest for the perfect tank. Fish choice, to me is so important, especially with these kinds of scapes, you don't want too many species or an assortment. The espei in your tank are the dominant fish and it looks good.

After the Cory sicknesses I stopped dosing Melafake last week and then after a 70% water change on Wednesday the water clarity has returned to 'air like' :)

After putting the 25 Espei in (February) and having a few jumpers in the first few weeks the number has been stable at 18 for the last 2 months I'm pretty happy with that as I wondered how long it would be before they were all gone during the first month or so

A bit of growth to see but as per usual my camera/skills aren't up to the task. lol

Lovely fish! I have harlequins now, but have kept espei in the past. They school well and the colors are understated and elegant, perfect for a lower-light tank.

Not much of an update really. Things coming along slowly and all fish still in tact.

Thought I'd post up this picture. Just a boring Oto, not very interesting but there ya go ;)

Thats the same one as in 'Triangle of Life'. The only one at the moment. Looks so small because his mum is huge. lol She looks ready to drop another batch. pity there's only 1 male left but I hope to have another batch to go into 'triangle of life' soon :) Maybe without the Cyano that made me decide to take apart 'nursery island' they will have a better survival rate :)

I like jungle tanks, but I'm not biased at all.

On your rasboras. It's a risk to keep them in an open top. They are fantastic jumpers. I've got a glass cover and I've still found a crispy R. pauciperforata on the floor. What's your current stocking level? Let's see if you're over-stocked. :hey: I don't think you are. You can probably add a some more rasboras and more corydoras.

Started with 25 Espei and currently at 17. they are indeed good jumpers but I have the water level 1½ - 2 inches below the top these days. Only had one crispy since :)

The stocking level was 25 Espei, 2 Otos, 6 Corys, hundreds of cherry shrimp and thousands of MTS so that totals about 4" per gallon of creatures in the tank. I guess it was about 37.5+4+18 inches in a 33USG which would've made 1.8" per gallon of fish :)

I have been higher but I see no problems. They are all different levels and no ammonia spikes in a jungle tank with that much plantmass.

I don't count shrimp and MTS. I'd love one of those larger filter feeding shrimp for my 20g, though. Would be pretty sweet. I've treated the tank with medicine, though I'm not sure how long the effects last in tanks. The worst I use is 1/2 dose of melefix or pimafix.
