OK i have another problem. my tank cleared up almost and i was doing weekly water changes. but then one day i look and it looks like someone poured some milk in it. i have been doing two 25% water changes for the past week ad it hasnt cleared up. I think the tank is still cycling but can i get some advice. Ammonium is 0ppm and Nitrite is 2.0ppm can anyone help and fast otherwise iam gonna change my substate to crushed coral. its a 20gl tank with 5 Tiger Barbs 1 Clown Loach and 1 2inch pleco.

If you have nitrite present the tank is still cycling. The while cloudiness is caused by free floating nitrifying bacteria. All adding the crushed coral will do is raise your pH, which your fish do not need.

Any amount of nitrite causes stress, it inhibits a fish's system from processing O2. Changing the pH adds another stressor. The crushed coral will not help cycling at all.

How long was your tank cycled to begin with? You shouldn't have any fish in there until the tank's parameters have stabilized (have stopped changing on ya.) It sounds to me like your tank was not yet fully cycled, or perhaps not cycled at all. The cloudiness is attributed to cycling bacteria that as Tolak stated are stimulated by nitrite.

yeah i did a fish in cycle so thats why there are fish in it. How long will it take to clear up? And is there anything else i can do?

It may take several days (even up to a week or more) to clear up, keep up the water changes and add some live plants if you haven't already.

I had the same problem with my fish in cycle. was advised a bacterial bloom. just kept up with my 3 times a day water changes and it cleared up. Oh and my fish in cycle took 2 months to complete. Nitrite only to 3 days to convert to Nitrate tho. so u may not have long to go since no ammonia.

Good luck

Zoe :good:

How long does it take to do a fish in cycle in a 80L tank, My mate is havin a bit of bother with hers. I advised daily 30% water changes but as im a newbie 2 it all, is this correct ? I dont want 2 be misleading her.
