ok once at my lfs i saw a betta eating its own tail went to pet co same thing so i dont know if i want a betta no matter how pretty they are if its gunna eat its self i dont want one

Some bettas will chew its tail when it's stressed, but they don't all do it by any means. Definitely don't let that stop you from getting a betta, they are great fish.

I've had over 50 bettas, and never had one touch its own tail.

If you were locked in a cell where you could barely turn around, the air quality was semi-poison, and the people in the cells around you were getting diseases and dying you might get nervous and bite your nails or something similar, right? Poor thing was just letting out some stress. Once in an adequate new home with good quality water his tail will grow back and if maintained well he shouldn't do it again.
