Depend's which hoplo specie's you have, there's three i know off, i have had mine now for 7 year's so iam guessing a good 10yr plus'er.....
great fish i have never bothered to sex it as only the one, they are better in group's i hear but he doe's just dandy,he hang's out most of his day with the sailfin plec looks like david and goliath

haha yes snakehead's are amazingly odd, i just love there interaction they show you and there look, as the name state's, snake looking head with some great colour's....check them out here, my best two big boy's are the parachanna obscuara<real snake looking, and pluero

I just got one of those polypterus delhezi and he is pretty cool and very active.

Not sure how odd this one is but i grabbed a peacock Eel too..Not as active with the lights on but still cool.

Both are with a 6-7 inch lemon oscar (really a Lutino) but he is really friendly and they are all getting along fine.

Hoplos can get bigger than Nellys as well, I once bought babies off a bloke who had a breeding pair that were about 2-3 inches bigger than nellys diagram
