Hi,

I'm about 75% sure that I'm going to start a saltwater tank, i have a 32 gallon that I'm going to turn over hopefully, all that i want really fish wise is a couple Ocellaris Clowns and maybe a watchman goby* (if that's possible), so far I'm pointing towards just live rock and fish but my question is do you need the strong lighting for just live rock? or can you do just regular because my tank came in a kit and i can fit 2 T8 20W bulbs in the canopy

*there's a reason to wanting the watchman goby but if i can't get it then it doesn't really matter too much

I'm still in the reading and researching phase right now so i thought I'd ask about the lighting question

Thanks

Hi..if you don't plan on adding corals, ie, FOWLR, fish only with LR, than lighting is not that important and what you have for now should be fine. LR is the biological filter for your tank and the bacteria will grow based on ammonia for the most part and not light. You could always upgrade your lighting at a later time if you need. SH

as far as the goby ( i have a diamond watchman goby) i would wait alittle bit to get him. allow the live rock to "seed" the sand bed. the diamond watchman goby is a great sand sifter and is always looking for food within the sand. mine eats zoo-ploanton and brine shrimp as well. he mostly is looking for food in the sand bed though. so a sand bottom is crucial for a diamond watchman goby.

hi im todd and im only 14 years old but i may b able to help

as for the goby ... it would b best to have coral for him as he lives off of alge on the coral

u dont really need a good light unless u want coral then it gets a little expensive but if u have no interest in coral any light will do

I think the lighting will be fine. You should let your tank cycle for ahwile before adding any fish not just the watchman.

yeah, i'd let it sit for a good while and do a couple of w/c to see if i could keep the settings straight before adding any fish.

Hopefully my friends dad will give me some pointers, he's kept a marine tank for 15-20 years, he has a fish almost as old as his daughter and she's 20
