No need to be sad anymore...

Now I don't know much about illnesses, I did deal with ich earlier this year....but just as an idea, could he have fin rot? He's missing part of that dorsal fin, ya know...could something like that cause an infection, and that's what his problem is?

I haven't looked up on fin rot yet, but I figured when you saw him closer you may know if that could be it.

Anyway....just my completely uneducated idea!

Yeah, i'm pretty sure that thanks to the stupid way they keep fish before we can take them home, he had a nasty case of finrot, and probably still does.
that, in addition to the fact that they are tossed around like little ragdolls, it's a good possibility that he could have come into contact w/another fish and therefore had part of his fin ripped off by someone else.
But, only he knows unfortunately.

I went out at lunch and picked up some Maracyn 2- I was out! eek! Been doing a lot more medicating than I thought! heh heh

Anyhow - I also picked up a plant. It's not hornwort, but looks just like it - I can't for the life of me remember what it's called. It should do about the same thing as h.w.
I'm ready to come tearing out there. I have my salt, meds, plants, bubble bar and heater ready.
I'm going to come squealing around the corner and hop out and dart downstairs when I get there. Petting your dogs and cats and turkeys and turtles and whatever other supremely cool wildlife I see on the way!

heh heh

I thought of a name.
I think we should call him Eeyore because he's so slow-going and lays around.

Then, if/when we get him better and he's zipping around the tank, it will be just sheer irony that his name is Eeyore!

Eeyore....LOL....I like that!

Will need to do chores this afternoon..........no problem, but will plan it around when you come. Do you have a general idea of when you might be coming?

Unfortunately it looks like I'm stuck here for the long haul.
And ironically my throat is really getting sore, for real!
I have a meeting at 3:30 and I'm going to bail after that.
SO..... that probably means I'll be squealing into the driveway around 5 or so.
Does that work?

That's fine, like I said, I'll be here!

I may run into the store 5 minutes away....we went grocery shopping last night and my son left a toy in one of those carts that have a car on them....they have it, and told 'em I'd get it tonight. So call and let me know you're coming please!

I was at world of Variety (store) in town here, where they have a few fish things. They had, for $15, a filter that suctioned to the side of the tank, with a pump, etc. Down the road, for this little 2.5, I was wondering if this would be useful...for water movement and otherwise.....I know right now charcoal, if medicating, should not be used, but I thought this thing was kinda neat!

Ugh.......off I go.........my son is refusing a nap.........could get interesting tonight.....

Heh!
Well I do have an air pump with a little bubble bar so that should work well while he's being medicated. Although I'm starting to suspect that he's got swim bladder problems, which is NOT good news. He can survive and live life to the fullest with it, but there's not a really good way to treat it. I guess it'd be similar to a person living with something like M.S. - just need to make special arrangements for the little guy.

We shall see, though!
I plan to leave here (Stoughton Road by the beltline) around 5'ish.
See soon after that!
I'll give ya a call when I'm on my way.
:)

BM, the plant you have that looks like hornwort but isn't is probably camboba.. I've never had it, but apparently it's really messy. Needs high lighting, too, if I remember correctly.

And Mr. BettaMomma is adorable! My guy used to just stare at the tank and get all excited when the cories wiggled across the front glass.. he never actually talked to them like that!

Hmm... i'm not sure that's what it's called either.
I think it's "fin...." something... hmm

and I don't think he thought I could hear him last night.
Although, he does talk to our 2 guinea pigs like they're children.
They (he and the piggies) listen to the humane society report on Friday mornings to hear about the misfortunate guineas that are up for adoption.

He refers to it as "Furry Friday"

lol

I can't wait I can't wait. Grulla's coming to post a picture. You will NOT believe it.
I can't tell the secret. I'm so excited!!!

And no, he's not swimming upright just fyi, it is something more exciting! :)

Pls hurry Gurlla!! I'm going nuts wondering what the news is!!! I have to leave in 30 minutes. If I have to wait until tomorrow I'll explode!!!
