No Going Back Now.

Heniochus diphreutes is hardy, reef safe and friendly. I have one, hes a really social little fish. Gets on very well with my tang and angel.
Heniochus acuminatus however are not reef safe.

The guy at my LFS told me that, googled it and he was spot on so i bought one, a trio would have been aweseome in a big tank though

Not my pic, but near identicle to the one i have

Wow that's some serious byropsis VM, sorry about that. When I had algae problems that bad I used a bit of 1/4" ID hose to help vaccum it out. Put a women's nylon on the other end which lets me siphon it into my sump and catch the algae. Sometimes it needs to be sucked into the tube, pinched at the end and pulled off the rock. It's an annoying process but it works. You could siphon into buckets/bins and just re-fill the tank that way...

Hi all

Gary, i start swicthing my lights on around 11:00am and all tubes are normally on at 13:30, they are all left on until about 21:00/22:00 when i start swicting them off and normally turn the last tube off at around 23:00, i do not have timers for the lights but i am pretty consistent with it. I am starting to think of a blackout for a day or two but am worried about the coral's, has anybody ever done this before? and is it supposed to be a totel blackout or just a case of not turning on the lights? any info would be great.

Thanks for the pic Ben, i will be looking into getting one or maybe more of them very soon

Thanks Ski, i have tried something very similar to what you mentioned and it's does seem to work very well but i have concerns about taking out to many of the little critters that my spotted wrasse eats, am i correct to be worried about that? Also mate, what are your thoughts on Gravel washing/vacing the substrate? I have done some already but i have the same concerns with that.

Thanks
VM

Good Luck hope it went ok

Does your wrasse eat whatever you feed the rest of the fish? If so I wouldn't worry about removing other little guys from the tank. I also gravel vac my substrate, thin diameter tubing helps :)

Hi all

Ski, my Wrasse or should i say Wrasse's (added another) do eat frozen brime shrimp but i am told that their real diet is copepods, i guess my gravel vac and the rather destructive cleaning of the rock i have done is not going to do them any favours at all, I suppose i could always add live copey's but they are £9.50 a pot, so i will monitor the situation first, hopefully i still have a good copepod population left, there were loads before (fingers crossed).

The toothbrush cleaning has worked well, i am not joking here when i say it took hours, it was back breaking stuff, leaning over in the tank for eight hours plus, lucky for me my wife helps alot and i think all the hard work was worth it.

Here is the tank now, i really hope it does not come back anytime soon.

It does look alot better, but the last time i did this it only lasted a week or so, if i had a better skimmer, would it help? I am running out of idea's here.

I will post a pic of the new wrasse very soon, its fairly large and has great colours, I think most will like it ;)

Thanks
VM

Cheers Ben, if I cleaned the back glass, it would be really good, but i just can't bring myself to do it, i hope its going to be worth the wait.

Not the best pic quality, but here is my new wrasse, It measures about 5 inch and has fantastic colours, i really like it.

OMG I hate you VM :). Wanted one of those soooo badly. Every time I get one, the thing dies in QT :(. Might have to wait a few years till I move house and get a bigger tank. I'm 0-2 on trying with those gorgeous male leopards :(

As for your algae problem, a bigger skimmer, and a well-growing refugium in that side-sump idea of yours will help.
