Nitrite sucks

i did my tests and my
ph=7.1ppm
ammonia=0.75ppm
nitrite=2ppm
i have been doing 25% water changes and although my ammonia levels have gone down my nitrite levels remain the same what can i do?! :-(
 
are you cycling? because nitrite sticks around for ages when your cycling

True.It will take a good 6-12 weeks for everyting to bottom out to zero. Water changes are great and helpful for your fish but they will considerably slow down your cycle. Patience :)
 
Yes i am cycleing and i have to change 20% of the water or else it will evaporate and if i top it off it gets all cloudy and icky. the nitrite used to be at 5 but has gone down to 2 since i started to change 20% of the water i have been cycleing for 6 weeks already how much longer is it gonna take i am going MAD :grr: i bought this tank so long ago and nothing is in it and my family is getting on my nerves because my dad used to have a tank and he never cycled it or made 20% water changes..ofcourse he owned a tank before the internet was invented and my mum says all his fish went belly up. :sad:
