While going through some of the fish websites in search of the cheapest quote for my new tank i came across some filters which claim to only remove nitrate, apperently they work by starving anerobic (excuse spelling) bacteria of oxygen so that they have to strip it from the NO3 converting it into nitrogen gas (or something like that?).However they weren't cheap and i have wasted so much money on products claiming to do this that i am a little cautious to part with my cash, has anyone else heard of these filters or even better used one and if so do they work? :)

I forgot to make a note of the site address :S so when i have some time spare i'm gonna have to search through the lot again :S

No these things were seperate canister filters which run off a by-pass from the normal external filter. They are completely air tight and contain media which has its own carbon source (so it said :S )I think they are more commonly used in saltwater set ups but didn't say anthing about not being used in fw.

I have re-found the site heres the address www.aquatics-warehouse.co.uk (sorry dont know how to do links :*) ) they are called nitrate reductors and come in 3 sizes, the 400 will do my tank and as its only about £85 i will be getting one soon,i'll let you all know if it starts working -_-

CFC,

Keep us posted on your experiences - at that price I might consider one for my tank....

Cheers, Eddie
