Hi,

I've recently cycled my 6ft, 300ltr tank and now have it stocked with wonderful, happy fish - Yay!! I have checked out the prices of ornaments in the LFS and they're way too expensive. I have collected some clay pipe, old terracota plant pots and interesting pieces of wood. Can I put them in my tank? I'll clean them throughly first but want to know if they're safe for my lovely, wonderful fish.

Just for your information, I have 2 silver dollars (I love the way they are so skittish and silly), 10 moss green barbs (really clever fish), 1 balloon blue ram & 1 coral gourami (from my old, small tank), and 5 goldfish (I love the way they look, and they're really frendly)

I've only newly stocked my tank and am so excited with it

Thanks for your input,
Annagh

ok well gold fish and tropical fish cant be in the same tank because tropical fish will need a heater to keep the water warm and goldfish are coldwater fish so they won't have much of a great life in a warm tank. So you might want to rehome the goldfish before you do anything else to the tank.

Plus, Goldfish are very, very messy fish. They also need a lot of oxygen in the water. The warmer the water (as required for tropicals) the less oxygen it will hold. If you have coldwater and tropical fish in the same tank, you can't give either of them the conditions they need to thrive, not just survive.
