So i've always wanted to keep betta but never had a free tank. I now have an empty 190l which i'd like to use for betta. Can I house more than 1 male in a tank?

No, do not put more than one male in a tank. Betta's really do best in tanks around the 5-10 gallon mark IMO. A lot of people may disagree but it is my belief Betta's do not enjoy big tank due to them being so deep, unlike the places they originate. A Betta may do alright in this tank but it would really limit potential stocking, IMO it would be best to try and get a smaller (Not too small!!) tank where the Betta can live on his own.-

I agree with Tuxyu. A 190ltr would be great for a large sorority of females and some other tank mates though :)

I have always liked the look of the fluval edge maybe I will go get one of these. Would 1 male betta and a group of neon tetras work? Also with the 190l is it possible to have a group of females and 1 male? Cheers guys

No, males and females cant not and should not live together.
1 male on his own OR a group of females (minimum of 5 realistically to spread aggression)

what is the litre of the edge??

The smaller one is 23L the larger one is 46L

What you need to do is go to petsmart and buy an Aqueon 1 gallon pack for 11 dollars. It comes with the tank, filter, filter cartridge, and a free plant.(fake one of course).

1 gallon isn't fit to keep anything live in, IMO.
I have heard that fluval edge's aren't great for betta and other labyrinth fish because there isn't much of a gap between the water surface and the lid of the tank. Something along the line of these would be better methinks (and cheaper for you!); Superfish Qubie Aquarium 40L or Superfish Panorama 40 :good:

1 gallon seems a bit small how many litres is that 0 lol. I've been looking around at some other fluval tanks they have some realy nice ones on the market like the fluval chi. Mite invest in one of those. Needs 2 look stylish in newly decorated lounge

I think that a 1 gallon is fine, I've got a betta in a 1 gallon right now, and she is doing fine. :grr:

I also think 1 gallons is too small to keep a betta long-term unless you are doing daily water changes of pretty much the whole volume, betta's may not need to space to survive but they do to thrive. The only time i would consider keeping one in a 1gal tank is if i intended to upgrade or i was a breeder who was intending to sell on.

I agree with Tuxyu- there's a difference between surviving and thriving. I have my group of girls in a 60 ltr and they use every inch of the tank :)

Josh, if stylish is what you're after, why not try an Arcadia arc? The 35ltr would be a perfect size for a single male. Very nice looking tanks IMO, and much better suited to betta than the fluval edge or chi.

all i can say is...
male bettas will fight whith each other and all other fish
to have a male and a female betta to gether you have to have a 10 gallon tank(baby fry!)
2 females will get grumpy whith each other
thats how to keep them to gether
bettas like bad water so dont wory if water gets a little bad but dont keep it like that
feed them 2 times a day
make shure they act good not sick
i hope this helps :good:
