what do you mean by white patches?

balas are prone to bacterial infections Im told.Mine have never had them though.

They have had a white patch if theyve knocked themselves on someting thats why we bought a bigger tank.If they knock themselves and it does go white I usually just treat with liquisil tonic and keep an eye on it but it usually clears up.

hope this helps

vey nice bala by the way

Thanks helsekia! B)

To be honest I just bought him on his own, knew he had a large tank to go in to, good filteration & he is doing fine right now. (I'm probably gunna get shot down in flames now for something or other :hyper: )

Wooooooooow! That tank is looking as fit as a butchers hook!!

Torpedo Barbs - Ok, I started with two bought from Frost's at about 3inch ish.. The slightly bigger one constantly bullied the smaller one. Our forum friends posted that these fish should be kept in groups to avoid one being picked on constantly which is probably right. (Anyway one moved on, & the larger one I'm left with is doing great, keeps him self to his him self doesn't aggro with anybody in my tank, though most are bigger than him anyway!)

i like ur tank its well nice,id like to have th space for a bigger tank good luck!!very nice set up!

thanks glad you like the tank. :) I love it the next thing will be to sort my 4foot out.Im hoping to have a community tank. so far ive got some wcmm, harlequins, golden gourami and opaline gourami, colombiantetras and a couple of silvertips.I need to build on the communities ive got as some of the fishes are in 1s or 2s

I love that Pleco ..... really impressive fish. He's almost bird-like

What's the open space for in the center of the larger tank? (forgive me -- I'm a mbuna-phile, we don't know the meaning of "open space")

basically the open space is there for 2 reasons.

1)the balas tend not to swim in a straight line.after much observation Ive noticed that my balas swim in an upturned arc position so having an open space in the middle means when they swim downwards they dont damage themselves on anything sticking up.

2)to define two seperate territory areas for the reed fish and the plec.dyson (the plec) is happy to guard his own bit of tank space and the reed fish and parrots guard the other end so they all live quite happily together .They do venture into each others end with no problems its just nice to define the areas.

does this make sense?
