This will be my fourth set up tank and the first time I deal with invertebrates. My wife has been talking about how cute they are and I wanted to do something special for our anniversary. It's a 20gal tank. I have the black gravel and the different types of plants and everything that I wanted in it. I know how to cycle and I have a master testing kit. My main concern was filter and lighting. All the plants inside the tank will be live. I also need a website to buy the shrimp from as amazon is kind of pricey. I do have an HOB 20-40 gallon filter that I thought I could just place panty hose over the intake valve. But any thoughts or ideas from you guys personally would be great. Do I need to purchase api CO2 booster?

I find that hose will clog up the pipes too much. You could get a fine sponge and place it over the intake and it should be all good. Try buying from aquabid. You can find good deals there frequently. You may not need the CO2 booster depending on your plants. What kinds have you got?

Can someone else please respond?

You have two options for a prefilter. Sponge or Stainless steel. Which I am a big fan of. Since I have both sponges is absolutely horrible. I mean it does the job, the only downfall is that you have to clean it every other day because of clogging. Stainless steel is a winner. Baby shrimp will not get sucked up and doesn't clog.

If you decide to get another sponge such as a coarser sponge you run the risk of actually sucking up the shrimplets. Believe me been there done it.
As for lighting I need more details on tank and plants. Where are you located in the US.

can you show me the stainless steel ones? Or where I could purchase them? I live in Alabama but it won't be getting very much sunlight.

ahhhh I knew what those were but I didn't know if those were usable. I've never used anything like that and I was afraid to use it with out a recommendation. I will have one of each of these plants maybe two of some http://i.imgur.com/XBnmkmn.png
