Plus the plants would affect your cycle as they would use up some of the ammonia that you are dosing. :good:

And yes, the water needs to be dechlorinated as the chlorine and chloramine will significantly harm any bacteria that does grow.
 
Just can't wait to get it going. The kids are doing my head in. My two year old wants "baby fishes" and my 6 year old wants jelly fish an octopus and a great white shark :lol:

PH might be too low - you considered buffering the water with baking soda? Ideal pH for a fishless cycle is about 8 ish.

How do aI do that?

I'm seriously thinking of emptying the tank and doing a fish in cycle as nothing is happening at all
 
You mix some baking soda with warm water til it dissolves, then add to the tank. If you search in the new tank section there should be guidance on how much to add.

Your ph is too low. Get it up to 8 with baking soda. Use a couple of tablespoons and re measure after an hour.
It can take a few weeks for the ammonia to drop. Also get your temp to 30c.
Need patience.
