Afternoon all.

Starting up a Cherry Shrimp tank, but I'm not 100% on everything.

I have setup a very small 20l tank, that has a "Shingle" Gravel.

Using a very small filter, that the power can be turned up and down depending on how I need it to flow, currently running mature media from my External Filter (Corse Foam, Less Course and then polishing pad) which Is running close to the top so it ripples.

I've cycled it using Ammonia drops, to which it is converted within 12hrs, PH is 7.2, Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 10, so it shows that its ready (I've been doing 10% water changes each day) and I now have 3 Guppys (Inch long) that have taken residence.

The only question I have, is the web says 12-30degrees, its currently at 24degrees at room temperature, would this be fine, or should I get a Heater just incase?

Cheers all!

I have my shrimp tank set at 24c, but I have a heater in to make sure it doesn't dip below that. I'd get a heater in to be safe.

cheers,
Ben :good:

defo get a heater as winter will be upon us soon, ideal temp is stable 24c shrimp dont like under 18c or over 28c :good:

Cherry Shrimp do fine in unheated water, they wont reproduce when the temperature is less than 16[sup]o[/sup]C however.

Just ordered a Micro 25w heater, but will keep it at a steady 25w.

With shrimp, what would you put in the tank, some Marimo Moss Balls and a few plants?

Afternoon All,

Had a few issues with the tank, including a small leak, so I have disposed of it and got a new Desktop Tank 7liters.

Its still running the same as above.

Beach Shingle (Boiled + cleaned etc)
25w Heater, @ 25degree's
A General Internal Filter, Modified to take a sponge rather than all the box etc

So its been cycled as above, and ive been doing water changes every week, around 30% and the levels are fine (PH 7.2 Nitrate 19 Nitrite 0 Ammonia 0)

So I have been reading up information regarding shrimps, but is there anything else I need to do?

I've got 5 Marimo Moss balls on the way, but not really sure what next.

And is 7 Liters too small?

Cheers all

My cherry shrimp tank is set at 26 degrees. They've reproduced many times at that temperature!

James.

Mine is set at 21 degrees and I constantly have at least 50 shrimpletts swimming around. They reproduce for fun :good:

Possibly consider getting some Java Moss and some bogwood for them to graze from and hide in. They seem to like this kind of setup. I have never tried Moss balls, but they might create the same effect. They also look good with a darker substrate as it shows their colours better.

Oh and one more thing, 7 litres is pretty small. I would have thought that once you have a filter and heater in, there will not be much room left. Plus it would be too easy to create an ammonia or nitrite spike through even the slighest bit of overfeeding. Just my thoughts.

Ok guys, I have access to a 25liter tank, half a hexagon shape, but its taller rather than wider, would this be okay?

Cheers

Ive got one of those lying around which I used to keep mine in. It should be fine to start with. If the colony gets large, then you might want more floor space but it will be good for now.

Found another tank! 30liter, 10x5.

Need to rethink everything now.. And need to get it all setup again!
