New Oddball Project

Love the hatching pictures. So, he ate frozen foods? Wow.

I am planning a 7x3x3 or there abouts where it will fit into a spot I have in the basement. Still no luck with sexing, everytime I get in position to get him to roll over he just swims away. So far all seems to be going good. Even though it hasn't eaten much it still swims around like it is full of energy and strength.

glad to hear he's at least eating something though. cant wait to see the mega tank :)

Well the little guy is doing great. Currently eating well about every 2 - 3 days. He is very active once all the lights turn off. I guess its time to start planning the big tank. I have decided to make it 7x4x2.5 (lxwxh). Hopefully I can get the remodeling done and start the tank build in the next few months.

Awsome. I love reading these updates LOL. I think hatching something like this shark from an egg is really really facinating. So is the planned 7x4x2.5 going to be a pond or an actual tank? And the best question ever, what are his tank mates goign to be? Youve gotta be adding an eel of some sort! :hey:

Well that looks like a banded reef shark juvi. If thats the case then thankfully you won't be looking at a shark bigger than 2ft hopefully, so you should be able to house it adequately in your proposed tank.

Well done on the hatching, now i just hope it feeds..

Ben

So far the only tankmate I have set in stone will be a ray of some sort (I miss my other one and want to replace him). I will probably not do an eel as the wife thinks they look too much like snakes (but the iguannas don't bother her, go figure) and I have to keep her happy with spending the money I need to to get this large of a tank. I want it to be a fairly aggressive tank so I am researching triggers, lions, and puffers. So far it looks bleak as to adding any of those. I think a few tangs will definately make it in there. I like chevron and achilles, maybe a school of yellows. Probably a few different wrasses to help with cleanup. I haven't really had a chance to research the compatability and functionality of all of these as I am trying to concentrate on the hardware for now. I will definately be posting a thread when I start construction. I'd love any feedback from members with large tanks as well to keep the build as smooth a process as possible.

Well bad news today. Last night I turned on the RO/DI to the tank to top off for evaporation (I uually have to add a gallon or two a day depending on how much the central air is running). Anyway needless to say I got destracted and went upstairs to do something totally forgeting to turn off the water. This was about 7:00pm last night. Got a phone call today from the wife to say I forgot to turn the water off at 10:00am this morning. RO/DI was running into the tank all night and morning. I have no idea how much water ran onto the floor and thankfully the wife was understanding enough to clean it up today while I was at work. But when I got home I found the shark didn't make it through my boo boo. I tested the water and the salinity was deluted to 1.010 I am fairly centain that is what did the shark in, but the cold temp of the RO/DI couldn't have helped either. Anyway long story short, my shark is lost and I feel horible that it was entirely my fault.

Im very sorry to hear that you were on a great start to succsess. If you fail once try again. From what i have witnessed, you are mre than capable of doin this. Again sry for the loss

Oh wow, sorry for your loss, you put so much time and effort into this. Ack :(
