New Marine Tank

Thats just plain tufa rock, chose them as they had really flat bottoms which help with the stability of the rockwork.

Got another 8 kilos of rock yesterday, 1 largish piece and about 5 small pieces so hopefully by this time next week ishould have all my rock and the tank should be how it wants to be!

Ive also turned down the amount of water going into the skimmer and it seems to be working much more efficiently now

I think approx 20kg of LR should be enough ??

plus the tufa which should be mature in 6-9 months ...

Be careful with tufa rock. It man made and has a tendancy to soak up nitrates and nutrients like a sponge (as well as other unwanted eliments). Then when you least want it, the tufa rock leaps (or sometimes dumps) these nutrients back into the tank causing massive spikes and possible death.

Sorry if this sounds alaramist but i felt you had better be aware.
If you want a good cheap source of rock that will act like live rock (in fact it will be exactly like liverock) then purchase Reefbones. This is what i used in my system as a base rock and now its fully matured like rock.

Just a little update... things are starting to appear on the rock, mainly feather dusters but theres the odd anemone, and quite a lot of ''Seaweed'' as such, also there seems to be a a mass bloom of feathery algae on the glass!!

Is this natural ? - i presume its ok and what should i do?

Should i leave it or shall i get my algae scraper on it?
