New Marine Tank

I would think that the 75 % of the rock will be ''Living rock'' as such,

Will try and get a pic,but its pretty small,

BTW my salinity is 102.2 on the hydrometer and the temps 80 is this acceptable?

I would increase the sg level to 1.026 (NSW - Normal Sea Water)

& the temp 80f - 26.6c is perfect - is the temp reading constant or so it fluctuate when your lights are on

im only new but have just set up a tank at 100g with 50kg of rock on the basis of 1kg per gallon (still need more) also have far greater circulation - 3 X 2000lph pumps, 1500lph canister and a stream to come at 6000 lph.

from my cals you seem low on flow and rock - and if you are only having a little rock then why not get it all live? i wouldnt put so little in and then rely on half of it seeding itself.

imo. marine seems very easy to "do cheap" and even easier to "fail".....i wouldnt tempt one with the other!

Great about the temp-no it doesnt seem to fluctuate at all, looking at the base rock ive put in i think im gonna now fill it with live rock, cos the pieces i chose were just for a firm base as much as anything..

The powerhead is now installed and that does 2500 L/PH and the external does 1000 L/PH

Btw its gonna cost me nearly £1000 before corals and fish-i dont class that as ''Cheap''

Im glad you have increased the flow for your tank. I have not been around for a while so im a bit slow on catchng up on threads. You will need an absolute minimum of 2000lph flow in your tank as this is 10x volume of hte setup, many people go as far as 20x or even 40x! Seems crazy but the fish can and will adjutst to this level of flow.

Im concerned about the manradin and tang... the mandarin really should nt be kept in anything under 100 gallons due to hter amount of liverock required to keep one. The tang is the same im afraid but for different reasons. If you intend to upgrade your tank within about 18 months then yes a small tang will suffice but you will need a larger system as soon as it gets larger and requires its cruising space.

Whats the smallest tang i can buy?

I presume a yellow tang would be most suitable...

any other fish you can reccomend also what shrimps would i need?

Heres a few pics of my tank as of today!!!

Getting really exited now,am goin to get some more live rock tomorrow!!!!

Theres 2 views of my tank and one of which i think is a feather duster! :hyper:

Correct me if im wrong :/

Hi Mikk

Very nice tank mate

Just a question or 10

What is in the Filter in the right hand corner ?
What is the thing sticking down throught the surface into the tank?

Maybe I have missed the answers in the post

Also you will defo need more LR

You want 5 x that much live rock at least, the more the better really!

Other than that looking good so far, Have you raised your salinity to around 1.026 as suggested?

Ben

Yes im getting around another 12 kilos tomorrow all being well!

Bought a monster 6.5 kilo piece today! £65 spent quickly, ive now got 8.5 kilos in plus the base tufa!

The filter on the right is my 2500 LPH powerhead and the thingthat looks like a spoon is my external 'out' pipe, the inlet and heater are hidden round the powerhead!

will post a pic of my new 6.5kg rock 2moz! and the side views hopefully so u can get a better idea!

Yes the salinity is 102.6,and temps about 81 at the moment!

thanks for all the advice so far,im sure i will be asking more questions soon as my LFS has got some corals in at £19.99!!!!
