New Little Project

I think Micro Ras' will be great but another worry with the stingray filter is the distance that it sits away from the glass and creates a gap big enough for a young neon to get trapped in, could be worth putting some sort of trim around it to prevent anything getting trapped behind it, shrimp are likely to try and squeeze their way in too.

Yes, worth taking into account. Can you not adjust flow on these things? I know you can change the direction but it's not exactly gentle, Betta won't be happy.

James.

Yeh just turn the flow out put against the glass and that will disperse it quickly, my flow direction adjuster thingy majig got stuck and I put so much forced into it I managed to snap off the plastic bit lol.

That's what i'm currently doing, but I can't turn it too much as it starts to move the substrate about -_-
I think i'm going to rethink the positioning of the equipment and plants.

James.

Update.

Betta has stopped sulking now and seems to be enjoying his new surroundings.

'I come alive in the night time'

The plants in there so far.

Moved the filter and the heater, seems now as if I have more room to play with, especially on that slant.
I can lower the flow of the filter here aswell, so it 1. doesn't move the gravel and 2. doesn't upset my Betta.

I was thinking off adding a piece of rock, maybe a piece of Seiryu stone that Ian quite kindly suggested. if you go here http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/352878-seiryu-stone/ and look at 'stone 7' I was thinking something similar to that. But my plans with it would be to embed it into the gravel hill so it sticks out on a diagonal angle similar to this.

If you notice how the very central rock sticks out and creates a sort of cave underneath? I was thinking like that, with hair grass all around.

Stock wise the Cherries will go in, just not sure when with it being an immature tank? Will they be able to live in a cycled tank with new water on just algae wafers?

James.

I used to use a stingray a couple of years ago, try some filter wool in the center of the filter. It will reduce flow and super polish your water.

That kitchen is really nice mate!

I really think that stone will suite this tank.

Would you go for just the one piece or maybe a couple seperated?

James.

Personally, i would go for more than one. But these stones are quite big, so it's what you're aiming to achive. You could end up with a really nice Iwagumi here, James!

Very nice simple set up, looks clean on the eye, like the sloped substrate, be nice with a bit of wood in the corner with some grass, keep the progress pics coming :good:

I was thinking possibly one big stone as the main feature, with little pieces of Seiryu scattered up the hill. Just one possibility. But the only way I could get them as small as i'm thinking is to get a normal piece and smash it with a hammer something, don't know whether this is wise or not? Think I better get the Dwarf Hair Grass on order soon.

Thanks mate :good:

James.

Good idea mate, you could get 2 rocks and then break them with a hammer. I have done this in the past with various rock and it's worked. I like you vision James, this tank will look great when you've done!

Nice looking tank mate :)

Have you considered putting something underneath it, like polystyrene to absorb the shocks when people put plates and cups down on the work surface? I've always been concerned with tanks in a kitchen and fish being spooked to death every time someone has a cuppa :>

I've not considered that, but will take it into account :good:

Will order the rock and the Dwarf Hair Grass soon :)

James.

Ordered my plants and stones.

Ordered Eleocharis Parvulus and Blyxa Japonica Dwarf just give them a try ehh? See how they go on, please bare in mind i'll be doing a lot of faffing[sub](is that the way of spelling it? Is it even a word? ahh well?)[/sub] with the plants and stuff, moving them from place to place and asking thoughts on each place

The rock I am getting is Seiryu stone

James.

The suggestion for the Seiryu is a brilliant idea, you have the right coloured substrate in my eyes to make that setup look gorgeous with the rocks.

I like the idea you have about using it on the hill perhaps having one protrude out from the substrate and a few smaller ones looking like boulders that have fallen off. I am definitely looking forward to see the results of this one, perhaps I might steal your plans for myself some day.

Looking forward to some photos with the plants in, I'm sure it will look great! :hyper:
