new idea....10 gallon nano...

DSB = deep sand bed.

It is a sand bed that is 3-4 inches deep or thereabouts and has anaerobic areas underneath it which process nitrates into nitrogen gas. Some say they look ugly in your main tank, so to have a DSB in a sump means nobody can see it.

with my pump, heater(s), DSB?, mineral mud and a bit of foam whats going to be the best way to lay my sump out to the most advantage?

i'm ok arranging FW sumps but i'ved seen alot of different designs for SW,,,,

it's going to be my current 24x12x12 and I'ved decided to make my own 24x15x15 asd thwe main tank out of acrylic then i can drill it myself with out a fuss.

Paul, just for info, there is a company in the UK called ultimate aquatics that do live rock on mail order, I got 5kg for £60 P+P Free, and the cost goes down the more you get, 10kg is £110 P+P free, a full box (20kg) is £190. Cant remember the web address, but they are in PFK.

Oh and its cured and is delivered next day at a time of your choice. They will also supply your cleanup crew at a very good price. (And no, I don't work for them, I was just very impressed with thier service. I ordered 5kg LR, 6 RL hermits, 12 Turbo's and 3 LH hermits for just over £100. I asked for 3-6pm delivery and when they did not arrive by 5pm I emailed them for the consignment number so I could see where the parcel was, I needn't have worried, they mailed back and told me the driver would be here in a few mins and he was!!)

1kg every 2 gallons is the minimum, a bit extra wont hurt. I have 26kg in my 32 gallon :D

Jon

Cheers Jon,

I think i was looking at there add today, back page right?

although i dug out a fax we got at work and i can get a 25kg box for £150 from our gravel company :D

i doubt it will be cured but since it's a new tank and not going into a old system that doesn't really matter does it...??

will have to look into prices for clean up crews more closely when I'm closer to getting it running, I might have to tie it in with our next gravel order which will be a couple of months. so should be enough time to get some dosh today aswell :kana:

ok..bit of news...kind of!

after a bit of misadvertising for a 4ft T5 lamp i bought I'm not getting it replaced for a 2ft T5 unit with 2x 55W power compact tubes.

for now it's being used width ways on my 4ft but once i'm ready to go marine i'll buy a T8 overtank for that then the T5 unit with 110W of lighting is free to power up my marine tank!!

should hopefully get a few interesting bits and bobs in there then.

Make sure it is the right spectrum - 6500K is OK, something closer to 10,000K is better, and you can use actinic supplementation if you want a bluer look.

i think i'll be changing the bulbs anyways, going by what came with the last unit they seem quite cheap bulbs.

might have my tank sorted aswell!

woohoo, got my new lighting through today and very snazy it is too!!

the lighting is 2x 12k 55W T5 power compacts, i take it these are tad high to make any use?
