Welcome my new betta girl, Moyra! I now have one male and one female!
She's so pretty and reigns over a 1.5 gallon tank to herself. I'm thinking about getting her a friend so they can hang out and talk about boys. ;D

Edit: second picture! She's hard to get to sit still.

That looks like a nice delta male to me. :good: In any case, no friends, please. :fun:

I dunno, who told you that? Could you get a picture of it flaring? I've never seen females with that long of finnage, it's got to be a male. Well, in a 1.5 gallon tank there will only be two females, and in that small of a tank the hierarchy will be uneven and one female might get particularly bossed around. In about a 10G, you could have 4 - 6 females and they'd get around, but 2 in a 1.5 gallon would be risky. Plus bettas need at least 1 gallon for each betta

She was sold as a female and it is quite obvious she is female comparing her to the male deltas that were being sold along side her.
I tried to get her to flare for an image for a good few minutes, but she simply stared at me (and the finger I was wiggling next to the glass) and turned away in disinterest. -_-;

Sometimes pet shops can be wrong. Look under her. Do you see a little white dot about a mm away from her gill, on her belly? Some males still have them, but more females do. But I agree, she doesn't look like a superdelta. hrm.....

Ok I got her to flare a little... I think.

And yes, she has the white dot on her belly.

I think you've got a female too! And she's very pretty. You can verify her gender by her oviposter if she has one like KJ suggested. It would be behind her ventral fin under her gills like KJ said. It will appear more pronounced if she's "eggie".

As for another female betta.... I think what KJ was getting at is that females can still be aggressive towards each other (some less, some more)... if there are only 2 (even in a larger tank)... they will likely harass each other... the more female bettas - the more the aggression is spread out. There are some females that can live harmoniously but it's hard to know that in advance.

Therefore, if you've only got a 1.5 gallon - I'd stick with one. If you can upgrade to a 3 gallon - then maybe 3 females (with lots of hiding places)... 5 gallon - maybe 5?? However, be prepared to separate any that aren't getting along... so you may end up with several smaller containers housing your females and a larger empty tank (that you can always fill with other fish! .)

It's a bit of a risk... just make sure you have a back-up plan if they don't get along. Good luck!

Hmm, I dunno. :dunno: It's mostly the shape of the tail that gets me; never seen it before, except it vaguely resembled one I had.

Definitely looks like a female.
My female VT has some pretty long fins and she's all girl.
Some bad quality pics of her, but you can see how long her fins are

EDIT: Almost forgot.... your new gal is a total cutie!!

Shes a gorgeous girl!!! Agree that 2 females together isn't a good idea, if you want to keep females together you'll want at least a 10 gallon tank with 5+ females, and make sure the tank is very well planted.

Here are some of my longer finned girls :D
