New Fish

OK heres my dissapointing test results for this morning. I think somehow my nitritre eating bacteria has died as its not moved:

Amonia 0
Nitrite 4.5-5
Nitrate 40-50

I think i may need to cycle my tank again, but this time WITH fish. How annoying!

i think you must have cleaned the filter too much, the bacteria colony after cycling is pretty fragile so you need to be very careful not to disturb it. even moving a little bit of mulm could have a disasterous effect.

you should only clean your filter when the flow has dropped significantly.

thankfully you won't have killed off all the bacteria so it shouldn't take too long to catch up with itself, daily 20% water changes will keep on top of it.

I shall be doing the daily 20% water change. Thanks for the advice. Is amazing how i maneaged to kill my bacteria off that easily though! I didnt even take the media out of the plastic holders, i just kind of shook them in the water.

On a good note, all my fish are still alive, and look fairly healthy. Although 1 out of the 6 doesnt seem to want to be part of the shoal, its always the opposit side of the tank. lol

Cheers for the help
