Hi

I have bought a new fillter for my tank.

What's the best way to start using this?

I was going to run the old and new along side each other.

It this is right, how long should I do this for and is there anything else I should consider? Does the new one need to be rinsed? Should I add any bacteria (how often?)?

Thanks for your help.
Andy.

Put the old media into the new filter.

Bosh, no need to cycle (assuming the old filter has of course)

Cheers for thre reply.

The new one is about 2 'sizes' bigger than the old one, so the spinge is bigger.

Does this matter.

Cut it up & stuff it in there! Try to keep it wet and don't take more than an hour to do the job if you can (or the bacteria will start to die off)....

If you need more room, take out the black carbon filter (useless) and the Green nitate filter (useless) (if your new filter uses them).

My crappy internal filter (money, money) is just stuffed with blue filter media. Oh and white floss to catch the crap of course.

It should never need replacing (but if it does, just don't swap it out), only replace the white floss once a week.
