ok i've had a spare tank knocking around for a couple of months now its a 24x15x12 and i thought to myself last night why not split it and make it into a betta tank!!

since i already had 2 sheets of acrylic and tubes of aquarium safe silicone i started doing it today :D

so here's what ive got so far, i've sanded the acrylic to make it opaque so the bettas don't flare at each other all day! i cut the bracings off the tank with the thinking that 2 pieces like that will fully support anything just as well if not better than the 2 crappy braces that were on it.

for now ive only siliconed the botton and about an inch in the middle up each side, just enough to hold it till i can remove the clamps.

i'm going to paint the back black and im leaning to simple sponge filters in each compartment, im going to use a different colour of gravel/sand in each bit to give it that extra bit of contrast and plenty of plants in each bit. :D

so what do we all think should i/could i do anything extra/better? all thought appreciated :good:

oh before i forget heres the pics

Was just going to ask the same thing, where will the heater go or are you not heating? I like it so far.

I drilled holes into the perspex so that i get even flow throughout the tank :)
It is a pig to drill though!

It looks really good so far. I have made simple sponge filters for my divided tanks and it works a charm. Any way keep us updated

see there i go forgetting about the heater so here is the update i just did

there are now 24 6mm holes in each divider should be enough to let water through :D

Looking good :)
Are you filtering? I put an external on mine and the spray bar runs along the back.. I face it towards the glass so the is little water movement.. Works well.

im thinking sponge filters but im not sure yet as i do have a spare external.

need to try and figure out my lid idea im gonna try and use show door hinges....dont ask  ;)

it's all silconed up now. next is to paint the back and but a black edge across the top should be done later ontoday if i can find my stuff

You could put a sponge filter in each section and run it off one air pump with an adapter thingy., though those filters can take up a bit of room. That would probably be the easiest and cheapest way.

Bet you wish you hadn't asked now!!

ur not going to get enough flow to filter and heat the tank correctly.
betta's hate flow so i dont really want masses of current!

im gonna try the 100watt heater in the left had compartment where the external comes out with the spray bar facing the glass slightly tilted towards the heater, obviously water has to pass through the holes in the dividers to get to the inlet in the right hand compartment.

failing all that i do have a spare external heater which i could put inline solving that problem if i have to.

as for the filtering as was the original plan if this doesnt work ill simply use sponge filters, i already have a 55ltr per minute air pump in the same room ill just split an airline off it for this tank not a problem. :good:

here's the finished article hopefully
