Hey oop,
bit narced off with my neons. What can I have instead? Anything that uses the same part of the water column from SA? Tha tank is approx 275 litres with 2 apistos, 4 bolivians and 10 cories so far. Actually, while we'll here, are there any more dwarf cichlids or any other interesting fish (pref from SA too) I could put in there?

mine are at 25 and are doing fine.

They are a from cooler waters. You can keep them at these temperatures but they do better around 18-20. Nor are they S.American.

OP - Dwarf flag cichlid? Laetacara curviceps

As for an alternative to neons, what is it that is putting you off? Behaviour? Shape? You could go for a deeper bodied tetra instead. Maybe Back/Red Phantoms.

hmm ok, just found these badboys though, although maybe badboys is not quite the correct term.

Something small to help with the scale of the tank would be ideal.

Yep, why not. There are dozens of alternative small, thin SA fish really.

I quite like penguin tetras myself, I like the way they swim, bit different?

Cockatoo dwarf cichlids ?
What is your max size ? :)

As a type of apistogramma they might not be compatible with the apistos already in the tank, especially not two different males.
