Neon Alternatives

Tetras... Buenos Aires, Lemon, Red Eye, Rummynose, Emperor, X-Ray, Penguin ...the list is rather long! Do you have any particular colour preferences?

Try penguin tetras, maybe watch a few videos of them - they're small, and they swim at a 45 degree angle with their nose up - bit different.

I know you say small/thin but black phantom tetras do interesting stand-off displays to each other and can change colour as part of it. There's also a red variation. They're deeper bodied but not large per se.

mine are at 25 and are doing fine.

They are a from cooler waters. You can keep them at these temperatures but they do better around 18-20. Nor are they S.American.

OP - Dwarf flag cichlid? Laetacara curviceps

As for an alternative to neons, what is it that is putting you off? Behaviour? Shape? You could go for a deeper bodied tetra instead. Maybe Back/Red Phantoms.

Only just noticed this post, I think that's the one mate thanks very much, will check my lfs now :good:
The neons I feel are just a bit boring, I only bought them because I'd never kept them before! Now I know why haha!
