Hi

I've been cycling a Rena 180l tank by adding household ammonia. The tank went right through the cycling process but due to work committments I have not been able to either plant or stock it yet and so have just kept feeding it with Ammonia. I added too much ammonia the other day and now when I look in the tank I can see a few of what I think are nematode worms (2mm, white, wiggly things with a head at one end that has some small protusions on it). The tank has eco-complete as part of the substrate so I'm assuming that this must have carried the eggs and now that the Ammonia levels have shot up again, the eggs have hatched and the worms are living off the ammonia. How do I safely get rid of these pests before I stock the tank?

Also, in the tank I have a white woolly, almost cotton like growth on the suckers for my spraybar and also in each top corner of the tank where the water meets the air. What is this stuff as when I clean it off it just comes back. Is it fungus and if so where did it come from?

Thanks
Ronan

This gives a bit of info : http://badmanstropicalfish.com/articles/article1.html - re the worm thingies

Not too sure about the white fuzz - post a pic??

also post water stats - maybe water changes are needed - get the cycle back on track?

Definitely nematodes but doesn't sound too serious. A water change is definitely needed I think. Water was 0ppm Ammonia and 00ppm Nitirite until I dumped in too much Ammonia and there wasn't enough bacteria to cycle it.

I'll try to take some pictures of the fuzzy stuff.

Cheers
