Glad to hear he is doing better. I agree with BM, you should name him something like Tubby or Bubba. It might encourage him to live up to his name. I am also glad to hear he is keeping food down. That is great news.

I hate to say this, but if Petsmart received them that way, chances are he has either TB or internal parasites. I thought that my fish had TB once, but I found out that they actually had internal parasites. I used a medication called Parasite Clear by Tank Buddies to treat them and they are now eating and getting nice and fat! I highly recommend it... you might want to try a low dosage of it to rule out parasites as a cause for his emaciation. Good luck with the little guy!!! :flex:

Well, it's been a week and a half, and I'm happy to say that both boys are still alive and kicking! Shred has livened up and is looking fantastic. I've named the other one Skinny Minnie, and although he's still terribly thin, he's doing great. He does the "Betta Welcoming Dance" whenever I enter the room. He swims all around his tank and is coloring up beautifully. I've got some new pics too. I want to thank you all for all the helpful information and advice, I think we all had a part in keeping Minnie alive.

I never would have thought that Minnie was such a pretty red betta, I thought he was a white betta when I got him!

They are looking wonderful! Who would have thought that traumatized little white fish would turn so RED.

:hyper:
That is COMPLETELY remarkable.

OH - I forgot to come back & report - I actually called Segrest Farms (the place that supplies fish to PetSMart down in MS) and I had 4 people, including the on-site vet, call me back and explain their fishkeeping routines. I was actually really impressed. I never called them back because they had pretty much said all I needed to hear on the messages.

I'm SO very glad that they're doing that well. NICE Work! :)

wow ... Minnie looks like a different fish! He's really a handsome boy, and Shredd's fins look beautiful. You're awesome for helping those guys! They were destined to be flushed or die at that PetSmart.

Are you still looking for a no-bark collar?? I've been an assistant dog trainer and I have a crazy pupper of my own, I've found that electric shock anti-bark collars really do nothing but scare the crap out of dogs :X... generally, the bark collars turn them into a neurotic, petrified, aggressive ball of nerves, I've seen it a LOT. And even if they do work, the second they're removed the dog usually goes back to barking. A more dog-friendly alternative is Citronella anti-bark collars. It sprays Citronella when the dog barks, which does startle them, but not in a painful way... it only costs $68  If you can't find it in local pet stores (which, I've seen it in ALL of my local pet/feed stores), you can always order it securely online....

Also, I was wondering what your Dad's dogs situation is? How old and what breed is he/she? Are they spayed/neutered? Do they spend a lot of time outside? What kind of training have they recieved? Just trying to get a feel for the pup to give advice.

It's been over 3 weeks now and both guys are doing great! Skinny Minnie is finally starting too look like he's got a bit of meat on him! His colors are getting brighter too! Shred's fins are growing out quickly and he's starting to fill out a bit as well. Shred does have a little pimple-like thing on his "chin" and it's starting to concern me. One of his pictures shows it really well and I'm hoping someone knows what it is and/or how to treat it. It's grown a little bit over the past couple weeks. It's just a single spot, it doesn't look like a little parasite like Ich. He doesn't rub it or anything, but he does 'flap' his lip like it's awkward for him. Shred isn't acting sick or lethargic or anything. He eats very well and dances for me when I feed him. I'm going to take him to my lfs guy soon if I don't figure it out. I'm hoping he'll know what it is and how to fix it.

Here they are: Minnie looking so good!

Wow - Minnie is turning into a gorgeous butterfly!

Not sure about the spot on the lip there - I've never had that happen at my house to date.
