This morning when I fed my mollies, they were all swimming around, eating, doing what fish do......
About 5 min ago I peered into the tank, and my white molly (the one I though was pregnant, and never had any fry)
was down at the bottom of the tank in one of the artificial plants I have, at first I just thought she was trying to get at a piece of
food, or being weird.... I dunno. The position she was in, and the fact that the movement of water from the filter right above her
made it appear she was moving on her own. Upon closer inspection..... she was dead. :( I just dont understand what happened.
All the other fish are just fine, darting around, chasing each other, hiding in the plants, and just doing what they do.
What happened to my poor little girl? Aside from not producing any fry from her enlarged belly, she showed no sign of distress.
RIP little girl :(

Must have a male, am I correct? What's the ratio of M/F?
It should be 1M/2F, at least per male.
it'll give less stress to one female, due to harrassment.

I have a 10 gal, I had 3 female, and 1 male. Now 2 female, and 1 male.
The guy at my lfs said that is perfect amount for a 10gal.

What were your water stats? (ph etc etc)

Mollies are extremly delicate fish and the slightest swing or bad water can send them into a tail spin. (One of the reasons i dont keep them anymore actually.)

In your other thread, she looked like that and never had fry? Did she turn skinny at all or was she still swollen when she died?

If they are so sensitive, why put beginner on them at the store? :grr:
I told they little guy I wanted pretty, yet sturdy fish, that wont die off so easily.
And yes, she slimmed down before she died, that was just the best picture I had of her.

Hi
When you found the little girl dead, were her scales raised at all? Abdominal swelling can be a sign of the onset of dropsy. If so, you may need to treat the tank with meds as dropsy is contagious.

No, her scales looked normal.

But I was just watching the the tank, and notice that one of my other females is a little aggressive, even with my male.
Do you think that if the white female were submissive enough, the other female could have killed her?

Hmm, ten gallons isn't quite enough for a molly, you need at least twice the capacity...
There is quite a chance that your female was attacked, was she a new addition?

I have seen some aggression between mollies on some occasions. They are not the peaceful, easy going fish that some people would have you believe. In most situations, they can hold their own against some fish with bad reputations for aggression. That does not make them any less a beginner fish, in a hard water area, they are great beginner fish but you may lose one now and then to an aggressive fish. IME that aggressive molly seems to always be a female.
