My Underwater Adventure Continues

i can see it

and the promanant red eyes makes me think bad (but not definatly sure)

also does he have paddle like legs (eg flattened)

seemed to me to have normal crab like legs, claws are paddle like i suppose. pincer is small, i didnt see any hair but this boy is super shy, i am not to worried as the bloke i got the LR from must of had it for 2 years or so and he said there was no trouble.
he had the lobster aswell, strange the crab and lobster didnt try to kill one another.

Started to add my CUC yesterday.
6 red legged hermits
6 turbo snails

they seem happy, this Sunday should see the addition of some shrimp.

Whilst gazing at my new friends I noticed a shimmering in the corner of my tank, I have a very small feather duster growing in a piece of LR, I am amazed at the level of life I have already in the tank. I have a small bristleworm (looks like a millipede) aswell.

you got some great bargains :good:

I love rock watching, its one of the reasons i'm coming back to marines, TV was totally ignored once I got my liverock lol, that is a very cute crab you have there.

my snails really seem to like the green grass like algae

Well my black crab doesn't seem to be bothering my hermits, he in fact sits beetwen them and grazes the rock with them... The brown one (thing, not sure it was a crab all I saw was a brown blob and what looked like a crab leg) I have just spotted dragging what looks like a hermit shell down a hole is a different matter.

How many #40## crabs have I got!

Hope it wasn't a hermit being eaten.

good news, whatever the brown thing is didnt eat a hermit. all 6 little ones are accounted, brown thing must of just grabed a pebble.

would be nice if i knew what it was but ho hum.

update on black crab - he eats algae! the grass like algae in fact! what a handy little thing to have, he looks cool, doesnt eat my inhabitants but does eat an unsightly pest. glad i didnt harpoon him!

now to figure out what the brown thing is :)

Another update, brown thing is a crab (lol)

he seems to be the same species as black crab but is a bit bigger, they both seem to like eating algae so i am happy to leave them be.

Both where sat within a few inches of s hermit and both where eating algae, I love watching them.

well today we have some new friends, terry the tangerine clownfish and a sand sifting starfish.

we got terry because we had to have him, full stop.

starfish was because our live sand was starting to look rank, LFS recommended the star.

LFS has told me that i am not allowed to buy coral for a week or two and has pretty much told me to stay out of his shop for a fortnight. i like him 'cos he is honest.

they only stock TMC fish, stock and inverts. i am led to belive this is a good thing, am i right to belive this?

EDIT- I have been watching my starfish bury, un bury, clim, fall and generaly have fun for an hour, I think he ate a pellet or two of the clowns food that got to the sandbed.
He has gone to sleep now, all tucked up in his sandy blanket.
Best buy so far this star, he is hilarious.

so i was a bit naughty yesterday and bought some coral, couldnt help my self, sorry.
looks amazing

sorry for the bad pics, my camera skills leave alot to the imagination :)

Looking good. As Seffie said I would rescape a little bit to give you more room between the rocks and the glass (enough to fit a magfloat). Otherwise you will get patches on the side of the glass where you cant clean.

Not sure about the starfish either tbh. I don't know much about them so somebody else can give some decent advice but sandsifting starfish basically live off the life in your sandbed. As the tank is new there is going to be very little life in there and there isn't a lot of sand for it to graze through so not sure how well it will do in the long run. As I said though I could be wrong so get a second (and third) opinion.

Good choice on the corals. The Green star polyp can grow very quickly in the right conditions so its sometimes a good idea to isolate it so it can't spread to over rocks to easily.

As seffie said dont worry about there not appearing to be too much life in the LR. It takes awhile for it all to emerge and even in my tank which has been set up for almost a year (and has LR in it from systems I had which where around 2 years old) I still find new things I hadn't seen before :)

dont worry about the starfish, i did my research and every 3-4 days will be poking a small amount of food into the sand.

if he doesnt get it all the other things in the sand (which he should be eating) will eat it.
as i used live sand (due to snow LFS had run out of normal sand) 2 X LFS seem happy that he will have plenty off food. i am quite lucky that both LFS that are local have reefers working/running the shops, one off the chaps showed me some pics of his 'tank', dude has a small sea.

and that picture is quite decieving, there is about an inch between the glass and all my rock although i intend to move it all around later.
