My Tank Design

Hi,

My 90litre tank has a ledge about an inch from the top all the way along the entire width of the tank. I presume this is for strengthening the tank, but i notice that not all tanks have it. What is the real purpose, and is it necessary, as it was a major pain trying to fit my external filter and it just seems to be a breeding ground for algae.

yep its for strengthenibng the tank.
Some tanks don`t have it as they have a "brace" (some times plastic other times metal) around the top to stop the sides peeling away

Ah, right, thanks. Don't think i'll be removing that anytime soon then!

i wouldn`t recomend it...

try notching out your lid so the pipe work for the external can go out past the "lip before it starts turining down
