I don't know if you should dip it in RO water, I would have thought that would harm the other things that are on it. I got mine delivered (next day delivery) and just put it straight in as soon as it got here. No problems so far!

Nope dont dip it.

Best way is just to give each rock a quick once over, get rid of any algae and pests you find and straight in with it

thought it might be a bad idea to dip it. ill just put it straight in.

cant wait to watch the rock with my camera at the ready. (only got one arm in use at the moment as i have a fractured shoulder) so i will try and take pics if i can.

cheers :good:

My sand and salt arrived today!!!! :hyper:

This time tomorrow i will have a tank full of rock!!! :hey: :fun:

very exciting

cheers :good:

I have had a mare!!!!!!!!!! :grr:

I left a plug in the tank for one of the pumps. I didnt realise it was there until today. when i took it out there is lots of little white things floating in the water. I think it might be plastic from the bubble wrap around the plug.

So I have turned the tank off and will empty all of the water and clean the tank to remove all the bits. then will need to refil the tank on the weekend.

Cant beleive how stupid i have been. but learning every day!!!! haha.

Excitement on hold until sunday

Oh no  instead of taking all the water out why not just run an internal or external filter over night?

Well I thought it would be better to empty it and start again rather than risking the plastic affecting the fish.
Do you think the foam pad and filter media could collect all the plastic and take it out of the water? I might leave the tank and pumps on overnight and see if it helps.
Cheers

I left the tank filtering over night and the plastic bits sank to the bottom of the tank. so i think i will empty the tank and start again. this way i wont be annoyed if in the future the plastic causes problems....and expense.

Cheers :good:

I have finally bought my rock!! :D 11.6 kg of the stuff.

How much of a gap shoul i leave between the rock and the side of the tank?

And how secure does the rock need to be?

Already seen a crab and some star fish like creatures. none have come out since i have scaped the tank.

Cheers. :yahoo:

Thanks Seffie

I have already seen a lot of hitch hikers, small star fish, bristle worms ( i think) and brittle stars (i think).

Next to go in is the sand. is there a special technique to put the sand in? or is it simply drop it in and try and move it around to cover the bottom of the tank?

cheers :good:

I put mine in using a cup with my hand over the top, but what ever you do the tank will go cloudy
