My River Reef 94 Marine Adventure!

well just tested my water and its due a change of water as the last one was last Monday
Good news the nitrates down to 10 which they haven;t beenfor a long time!!! the cheato?????? hope so
ph was up slightly as well to 8 so thats an improvement

calcium though was still 260!!going to order a new kit off ebay now see if theres a change

Si you have alot of hard coral in a small tank so I'm not surprised your calcium is low, test again tommorow to see how much it's changed but you may need to consider either dosing Ca or getting a reactor.

Hi Sorgan

I have a tub of tropic marin calcium additive should I dose that or can it have a negative effect?> :good:

Is it just Ca? Or does it contain other things? The problem with dosing calcium is it can alter your ph as it's an Alkaline.
My advice would be to draw of 5l of your water, test ph and Ca then add the recommended does for 5l (may take some maths) then retest, if your ph is the same and your Ca has gone up then your quids in.

Just don't add it straight the you tank in powder form, draw water off and mix or mix it with your top up water.

Are you keeping up your water changes mate? I don't like to dose my tank if I can help it but if your doing your WC's and your Ca is still low then I suppose there is no other option :)
Keep us posted

I;ll do that with the 5l of water
I;m bang on with my water changes not missed a week since I;ve had the tank

well not much happened in my tank other than my favourite hermit the halloween crab has disappeared and his shell is now occupied by the blue legged hermit!!!

also my big riccordea in the centre of the tank has in the space of one day split into two!!!

sound like your tank is back on track then m8 :good:
my tank is doing ok but i lost my frogspown frag. it just kept falling off no mater how much i stuck it down  not having much luck with frags in my tank.
im just going to buy corals for now on :good:

Few problems with my tank of late
An xenia pulse I;ve had since start has just turned grey and fallen apart
then my favourite fish lawnmower blenny was dead yesterday being eaten by the grabs and shrimps!!
My royal gramma is also suffering from white spot, hes now the only fish left?????

I;m not going to buy any fish for a while and try and sort out the mess the tank is obviously in

Just tested sg and its high at 1.030sg, will test otehr params now prior to the water change I;m about to do

Simon

Sorry to hear that Simon, think we all go through a phase like this at some point

to be honest its been two weeks since I changed the water, before then I;ve done it every week. I wouldn;t have though that would have made a difference but hey ho
It'll give me a chance to make some changes I had planned anyway. Gutted about the blenny though he was a belter and showed no sign of disease.
Thats him and a two clown fish I;ve seen being eaten by the Sally Porter crab which is about 3 inch plusnow. I assumed the fish were dead before being eaten although I;m not so sure.

here we go
sg 1.030 eeek
nitrite 0
ammonia 0
ph 7.4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! not good!!
nitrate 0!!!! since I had chaeto this has dropped!!!
kh in dkh 7.0
alk in meq 2.51
calcium 260 still too low

I really dont understand why your calcium is so low - have you had it checked at lfs?
