My River Reef 94 Marine Adventure!

well been away a week and come back to a pesky hammer coral extending its feelers a fair way all in the direction of the riccordea mushroom coral which is pretty damaged and the elegance which has totally gone in its shell. Just moved the hammer not sure where to put it yet.Need someone to take the toadstools, plenty of people emailing saying they will but no one come yet!!

oh well prior to water change a test of water
ph 7.7 no idea why so low again!!
ammonia 0
calcium 300 still too low!! boo
nitrite 0
nitrate 25mg
sg 1.027 - is this slightly too high?
phosphate is the lowest on my kit says 0.1

YouR lower ph could be helped by increasing the surface agitation so more gaseous exchange can take place. Also when you try cheato that may help too. Meant to tell u actually d-d where in my lfs the other day n apparently they will be doing cheato lighting for nanos soon. They will be sold to light the chamber top to bottom rather than the little square when lighting from above.

The sg shouldn't make that much of a difference. Refractometers calibrated isn't it?

do your water change n make adjustments slowly!

My PH was at 7.8 and got told from lfs that it's the salinity 1.025 that will rise up the PH so I thought I will have to just wait but from now couple weeks back I pointed my powerhead up and checked it a few days ago and its reading 8.0 so I think it has helped but never knew that so thanks. Actually had a bag full of chaeto the guy generously gave free with Live Rock and he said throw it away if you don't want it and didn't really think I would so I did, never knew the benefits of it.

Cheers chaps

I have some lights on order that Craig referred me to, chaeto on way to so we shall see how I get on with that. I;ve never had 0 nitrate so will be interesting to see how I get on with that
I have adjusted my powerhead so it points right at the surface although it was agitating the surface already

I;m going to try a different salt make next time see if that makes any difference

Simon

Simon, I've never had 0 nitrate either and I am running Chaeto as you know, I'm not experiencing any issues thus far with my nitrates around 10mg/l though and I am sure the figure would be much higher if I wasn't running Chaeto

ive had 0 for the past month or so :D

my nitrate is now 0 :D sorry simonas.
how big are your water changes? were do you get your water from? (cant remember if you buy yours or not)
i have been told that 25 nitrate isnt that bad. but still best to keep it under 10 :good:
on my tank i have 2 types of algae some red thing and a green thing  its in my refugium :good:

i put the green one in the tank and it grew madly.... until my urchin found it. so now the rest of it is in my ref.

i change 15L a week thats over 10% but its enough but you can never change too much water :good: lets hope your algae will start to grow :good: did the tank come with media? some people missed some on their orcas

you jammy git!! lol
I change about 20 off litres every week tank is only 94 litres!! its RO from my LFS and I mix myself with tropic marin

also got my salifert hardness and alkalinity test kit today and its testing perfect with check solution but giving a reading higher than the kit allows for my water

what are the side affects of high hardness and alkalinity?

I think I have worked out a contributing factor to my low params
I;ve been using Tropic Marin sea water mix rather than reef salt. Is this the reason

I'm ordering D&D H20 Salt mix tomorow

i dont know because every brand has different amounts of cal etc :good: so maybe

I use Tropic Marin and my params are fine

is it tropic marin reef though or normal tropic marin?

i would of thought that using the reef one would have better/higher params
