My River Reef 94 Marine Adventure!

well been away a week and come back to a pesky hammer coral extending its feelers a fair way all in the direction of the riccordea mushroom coral which is pretty damaged and the elegance which has totally gone in its shell. Just moved the hammer not sure where to put it yet.Need someone to take the toadstools, plenty of people emailing saying they will but no one come yet!!

oh well prior to water change a test of water
ph 7.7 no idea why so low again!!
ammonia 0
calcium 300 still too low!! boo
nitrite 0
nitrate 25mg
sg 1.027 - is this slightly too high?
phosphate is the lowest on my kit says 0.1

where abouts are you?
ill take any corals you no longer want!
desperate to get mroe for my setups, please let me know what youve got and where you are! :D

hello mate I;m in Wirral but the sun coral and two toadstools have gone to new homes

not planning on adding anymore to mine unless I find a fungia anywhere

i would of thought that using the reef one would have better/higher params

it would and thatsmy point, all this time I;ve been using the cheapest normal saltwater mixrather than reef mix!! fingers crossed achange should see an improvement :good:

belated update

unfortunately my elegance coral perished and was eaten by the hermits. It was withdrawn for a few weeks which I;m gutted baout as it startedout so brightly and looked ace till I went on holiday

Also about a month ago I lost my yellow polyps but I;m not sure if its cos they were not in direct light.

I lost a fungia as well a good while ago, like a fool I poured some ph lifter powder direct and it went on thefungia andburnt it and it never recovered

saying that the tank is now pretty stable, calcium still low despite change in salt

I can;t get RO water from any other source locally. Is it worth getting a RO unit for a tank of 20g with the small changes that come with that?

oh no  i really want a purple tip elegance coral but it gets 7 inches so to big for my tank

well i was thinking of getting an RO unit for when i upgrade. but tbh i dont see the point on a tank your size or my size. unless you are unhappy with the quality of the water. :good:

Sorry for your losses mate, thats a shame!

With the RO water I agree with Harry, unless your really not happy with the TDS you are receiving now I wouldnt bother. I buy mine and would really only consider changing it if I had problems with the quality or upraded to a larger tank, for convinience sake.

I did loads of reading about the elegance corals misfortune and theres lots of info about an elegance coral disease which effects a lot of captive elegances. Eric Borneman has done a load of research on it and it suggests they are best left here they are

they look amazing though

Aye sim, chalk it up to experience. We all have unexplained disasters so chin up :)

I personally would use RO for any marine tank pal as nitrate is a coral killer, we try so hard to remove it by doing WC's it seems pointless introducing it with said water.

I would only use RO as well but I waswondering whether worth buying an RO unit for the small changes I do rather than buying RO from the shop every week?

well imo theres an RO filter in my lfs thats around 50-80$ that does a gallon a day so that would suit your needs but id only do that if your not planning on upgrading for a while

some new pics from tonight haven;t posted any for a while
It was night time and you can see some of the corals have got their tentacles out ready for the phyto plankton and mysis

I love the montipora in the back (at least I think it's montipora). Was gonna get one myself but didn't think I had enough light to keep it :( Really want one though! Looking good!

Rhy

Looks good and like where you have stuck the Euphyllia, naughty boy that he is

Will be interesting to see if the cheato has made that big a difference to your nitrates - go, on, do some testing

Can I ask a question, on July 22nd you posted some pics and there was a little frag of plate montipora. Is that the same little frag that's grown in the back? And how has it done with 2 T5's? I have 2 T5's aswell and if the Monti can survive with that kind of light them I'm heading to the LFS! LOL

Rhy

Hi Rhy

No that little piece is still there its growing a little as it happens as I can see where its grown where its been milliputted down

That large piece I got free from a local reefer who just had to get rid of stuff or the bin!! lucky me!!!
