My River Reef 94 Marine Adventure!

Thats a strange calcium reading for someone who is doing regular water changes and doesn't have loads of hard corals! What salt are you using?

Its a great read for a Sunday afternoon, bottle of wine, peace and quiet and sitting in the garden :good: but on a more serious note, it is a fine book which explains things in an easy to understand way

some pics from tonight
the glass is a mess and is getting cleaned in the morning when I do a water change

you can see on the toadstool where the yellow polyps were touching and have damaged a bit. that being said he looks finally happy in his new location where he is staying, This isthe final scape!!! till I get a bigger tank :hyper:

This green coral is really looking good of late. took it a while to settle but puffs up lovely every day and reveals its tentacles now every night, not fed it yet

002-36.jpg

the sun coral is still ok and looks well when fully out. I realised that I wasn;t feeding it enough and its doing better again now, in hindsightI wouldn;t have got one knowing the amount of attention they need for food
003-27.jpg

The Kenya tree is growing really well. I do like this and got it free as a tiny 2 inch frag off a local reefer
005-27.jpg

The coral taht grown the most and it since I removed it from a piece of rock and stuck it to the side of my stack of rock nearer the light is the finger coral. Hes great and about 5 inches tall and wide now, the pics don;t do it justice. The little greenstar polyps next to it are pretty cool as well and growing quickly. The riccordeas as well are booming and spread so far down when fully open, I love them. There is one head at the back which has no space or light and is really small, can I just slice that off and reattach it in the light?

The torch doesn;t look that happy either, I;ve never figured out how to feed it and it doesn;t look as big as it used to, the arms are thinner than a few weeks ago, no idea why
009-22.jpg

Still not convinced my xenia is happy, it seems slightly smaller than when i got it, but when it pulses it really does look ace
008-25.jpg

and finally the final scape, this will not change and I only want to add another zoa rock if possible and maybe a maze coral on the floor if space can be engineered

Still only the lawnmower and damsel in there, they don;t seem to have suffered with the white spot the others got and succumbed to. Its been like that about 4 weeks so I;ll wait another few weeks and maybe add another fish or two. Since I have used phytoplankton the corals look better

001-35.jpg

for some reason the full tank pic wouldn;t go on last post

Euphyllias although they sometimes take mysis etc it is my experiance that they dont do it often. The torch may not like being in the middle of the two softies, are you running carbon to remove any toxins that the leathers might be releasing?

I'll move the torch later Seff and see how he gets on, I looked back in this thread andtheres a fair difference in tentacle size betweeen then and now

I;m using rowaphos that came with the tank I changed it about 3 weeks ago

Rowa removes Phosphates but not the chemicals released by leathers. However, to me the torch looks fine, they don't like too much flow though

I;m still learning

I;ll sort some carbon out today probs

#29### forgot the carbon... oops

I've bought a platygyra acuta maze coral today as well its lovely looking forward to it going in

not sure Seffie but from looking at the other forum they seem to be pretty common in the hobby

i havnt put carbon in my tank yet and all the coral are growing fast.

I moved the torch to the front left corner of my tank where the sun coral was and it immediately looks bigger and thicker in the tentacles. cheers for the suggestion there Seffie

Cannot find platygyra acuta on the Cites list which would make ir rare in this country like the Fox Coral and red cynarina albeit I know where I can buy one of them and drool over the other.

There are quotes applied to the collection in Fiji for this coral but i believe that to be the case for most if not all :good:

Simon if you just add a golf ball size lump of Marine Carbon to your system it will allow all your corals to grow better as Most softies realease toxins into the water column to retard the growth of other species so it can have more space/light.

When you consider how large the ocean is in comparison to the nano tank removing these toxins can only be good :)
