The remaining two bettas are not getting along anymore. If they haven't established a heirarchy by tomorrow I'll seperate them. :shout:

I've had to seperate the two of them and I put the aggressor by herself and the more peaceful one in the 20 g, they both seem to be doing well in their new tanks.

Shortly after seperating the two the female in the shrimo tank developed fin rot and stopped eating. She passed on by the 20th. :-( Im not very good at keeping female bettas. Definitely don't reccomend in a tank as small as mine. Should've returned two of them earlier as advised. :/
On a brighter note the other one is doing fine, she comes out now and then to get some food and is enjoying all the space and room.

The tank is looking rather bare yet again and the water is ideal for betta life, I'm going into town today to look at a second hand tank so I'll pop into the LFS and try to find a MALE betta this time.

Sorry TT :(

Seems you have learned this the hard way and will be something for you to remember and advise on :/

A single male betta is a much easier and safer option ;)

Yeah for sure Charlie, never again will I keep female bettas in small numbers.

I got a rather stunning male betta today, he's a white Halfmoon. Very swish.

He has loads of character and seems to enjoy the upgrade from a jar in the shop to a rather luxurious shrimp tank. The lights are off for now so pictures will have to wait til tomorrow.
I've not decided on a name but I think I will choose either Ghost, Casper or Snowflake. All after his white color and ghostly appearance.

Sounds great :)

One little warning, if you're putting a betta into a shrimp tank that contains, well, shrimps, he may eat or bully the shrimps.

Entirely depends on the Betta's temperment.

But a white betta sounds rather lovely to be honest, can't wait to see some pics :)

He seems to be leaving the shrimp alone for the moment, he's really stunning in my opinion. Pure white body with light blue fins. Really active too, he ate well this morning.
Here are some pictures Of him:

I've also found a new aquarium I plan on getting, a Juwel Vision 180. Plans won't progress fast but my journal will be in this thread.
Here's a bit of wood I want to out in it:

Ginger ale for scale

Had a bit of a rescape today, removed some plants as it was getting very cluttered and messy. I took everything out and then put it back in different spots. Turned out quite well I think though the water is cloudy. My filter is making bad sounds and hasn't stopped even after half an hour of fiddling with impellers and motors, I'll get a new one soon, still works fine but very loud. The otos are loving all the new things to chew on.

Ghost the Betta is doing very well. Very active and friendly whenever I'm around, cohabitating with the shrimps too.

All still going well. Fish are fine, tanks are fine. My Betta is doing great. Always happy to see me. :)
I got the new filter up in the 90 liter. working well and quiet too. The tube is blue so stands out a little but I don't mind it too much.
The Flourish root tabs I got are definitely helping the plants. I put a few in a few weeks ago and the plants have perked up a lot. No more yellow leaves or withering plants.
The white light busted a while back so I had to get a new one. It's orange again though. :/
The orange light in the shrimp tank is bugging me, when I get the chance I'll do some work on it. I'm thinking that I will use another lighting unit. I'll have to cut out the prebuilt filter and get a internal one so that the light will fit. :S Might be tricky.

I've made progress on the new tank. I've gotten it in, not set up yet. Just sitting in my living room at the moment. I've made some plans as to how I want it to look and what I want to put in it.
For stock I'm thinking
A shoal of rainbowfish
A shoal of synodontis nigriventris ( upside down catfish )
An African butterfly fish

I've also Drawn a plan ( not very good I know but you get the idea hopefully )

Key:
1. Riccia ( I've read this can be left floating? )
2. Vallis
3. Pile of small rocks or a sculpture with a few large rocks ( basalt or river stones )
4. Compact bleheri
5. Chain sword
6. Driftwood ( the same that's in a few posts up )
7. Ambulia

But your tank sounds good, would be good to see a pic or two though :p

A couple of quick questions before answering about your stocking options as Butterfly Fish requires quite specific set ups to thrive in.
(do bear in mind ABF will eat anything that fits in its mouth, so small fish and shrimps gonna be a no no as tankmates)

Yeah the main purpose of the tank is for the butterfly fish so I'm willing to adapt to suit its needs. The filter I have will not cause much current and I will include riccia to allow it somewhere to rest. I'm hoping to keep the tank around 25-26 degrees which is similar to his habitat.
All the fish I get will be over 2 inches when I get them and aren't top dwellers so the butterfly fish shouldn't bother them so long as I keep him fed. I can feed him live crickets or worms if he doesn't want to take flake or pellets.
I'll definitely include some pictures of all my tanks when I get my new lights and filter for the Betta tank set up.

Ah, not bad planning. AFK likes insects too, it will also hapily chomp on any spiders or flies you catch ;)

That reminds me, tank needs to be covered as these guys jumps, pretty good jumpers too actually. As obviously is an insect eater as mentioned earlietr, so will jump out of water to catch flies.

Also they refer darker waters, so if you can get the tank water stained with rooibos tes for example, that will benefit them as well as any floating plants to help diffuse light.

Am rememebring this as Ninjouzata loves them and explained to me a lot about them in chat, hence I learned a thing or two ;)
