My Pleco's Do They Have Enough Room?

It's ok i'll just give them away but i know for sure ill make on my sunshine pleco- i managed to get him for £40 and he is 5-6" , I have been looking on google they sell for £125 at 8-10 inches :D
Two years of upkeep in a 400litre tank or twice weekly 25% water changes over four years in your tank - that price doesn't even cover the dechlorinator, let alone the electric.
I doubt you'll make anything though as don't expect he'll survive long. It is really poor of shops to sell these types of fish to people who don't have suitable accomodation for them.

But i do..

What part of being told that your tanks are too small for the fish you have purchased don't you understand?
Why do you come here and ask for help and then totally ignore the advice given to you for free?
People don't have to reply to you, but they do, for a reason, the sake of the fish's welfare, which it would appear, is not something you have considered.

Well the albino plec has disapeared from her/his profile, did it die or did you do the responsable thing and rehome it? If people tell you have space issues for your fish in your tank, and the next thing you do is buy more fish instead of sort out your current issue, then there aern't going to be many people you will congratulate you on your new purchase. Nobody is trying to be harsh against you, they are just concerned about the welfare of your fish, which doesn't seem to be that important to you at the mo.

Hi, hope you don't think I am butting in. He has said on another thread that he is going to give the Commons to lfs, sell the Sunshine Pleco or try and get bigger tanks. :)

The problem isn't the intent, it's the action.

Getting rid of large plecs is not that easy as there are not that many people with the room to house them. The value for commons is next to nothing. As a result people become attached, think the plec is alright when it isn't and leave it far too late to give the fish away.

I know Commons aren't worth anything, but I think lfs will take them if they are large enough. The Sunshine Plec should sell though. Hopefully he will be able to get a bigger tank (or two). I have told him how much my Common grew in it's first 7 months, a lot! :)

As a LFS employee I'll give you a few home truths..

your common plecs are worth naff all even if there 18"long. Plecs can sit aorund for months not selling whilst it's costing the shop in food which is why shosp wouldn't pay for them.

If you do manage to grow your L14 that big it's going to take atleast 2-3years in perfect conditions and even then if you choice to sell it to the LFS if your lucky they may give you your money back, 40 quid odd. But if you try to sel it perfectly and explain what size tank it's been in for it's live most people that would be interested would b put off by the fact it's been kept in a too small tank.

If you want to make money out of fish keeping, set up a huge project to breed live bearers or a type of tetra that sell well, then if you raise enough of them at a good size and sort a deal out with your LFS you may be beable to get 20p per fish.

Did you really believe you could make money by fart-arsing around with a popular L number? If you done some sums and research you would find out you can't make money off a single fish easily.

Sorry if it's come across harsh but you don't seem to be listening, your going to end up with dead fish and be out of pocket. I bet you didn't know that there's quite a good chance of your plec dieing in a few months for no reason aswell.

I intend to keep my Pleco until it dies of old age, I am very fond of it. My lfs does have large Commons for sale, but as you say they could be there for months. That's why I am keeping mine even though it is going to be expensive to buy ever larger tanks/ build an indoor pond. People don't realise how huge they can get and how quickly. Mine was sold to me as a Bristlenose and the lfs did offer to have it back. I hate to think what happens to most of them. I am 52 so I will be quite old when the Pleco is about 18 - 20. If I cannot cope (water changes, I might be too creaky by then to carry the buckets!) I will find it a good home or pay someone to maintain the tank. :) I know your post wasn't particularly meant for me but I just thought you might like to know my Pleco plans!
