My Plec Wont Shut Up

my sailfin plec has been with me only for a few days and recently he has been making a very loud noise in the nights almost as if hes grunting. and by loud i mean hes been waking me from my sleep . (and thats hard) hes really anoying. well my question is does anyone elses plec do this, is this normal??

No, it's not normal. Plecs don't make noises.

Are you sure he's a plec and not a raphael or one of the so called 'talking catfish' species?

Have you got a picture of this creature? I'd like to see what is making the noise.

I'm assuming you've actually "seen" him making this noise and not just heard it and assumed it's him.

My old Royal Pleco would often produce what sounded like a horrible grinding noise. I'd hear it in the middle of the night when the room was dark. For a while I was quite paranoid about rats chewing on something loudly in the walls. Eventually I noticed it was my royal pleco attempting to eat the glass as well as one particular piece of wood (mopani).

Is that possible what you're hearing? Your plec rasping on glass or wood?

its not rasping. iv seen him do it. its just random mostly when hes just still at the bottom of the tank and it is definatly a sailfin plec.

afterall you have only had it for a couple of days...

i very much doubt it is lonely. it was in a tank in the fish shop on its own anyways

because i very much doubt its sengal or my flyer cichlids. iv seen him do it when there on the other end of the tank.

i have a sailfin plec in my tank which i thought was making grunting noises but when i actually sat and watched it was my albino corys getting air

no cory in there, iv just sat down to watch him again and he still does it.
